Indiana’s Academic Foreign Language Standards

IPSB Foreign Language Content Standards

The class will understand their culture and the influence of that culture.

Standard 4 Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture.

Standard 5 Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the products and perspectives of the culture studied.

Standard 7 Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the foreign language and its culture.

Standard 9 Students demonstrate understanding of the concept

of culture through comparisons of the cultures studied and their own.

2P 1. The teacher creates long-range, short-term, and daily plans for instruction which are responsive to learners' needs as well as to other constraints of the learning environment.

2. The teacher selects from a range of teaching approaches that are known to be effective in meeting the diverse needs of learners.

6. The teacher adapts the use of instructional materials, such as a textbook, to local curricular and instructional needs and uses a variety of authentic materials.

7. The teacher utilizes appropriate technology when available.

2K 4. The teacher knows which approaches in foreign language teaching methodology are currently considered to be effective.

8. The teacher knows how to acquire up-to-date authentic materials (e.g., print, audio, video, artifacts, etc.).

9. The teacher knows what role technology can play in foreign language learning.

10. The teacher knows how to use appropriate evaluation and assessment techniques to monitor student progress.

3P 4. The teacher has a knowledge of resources to access up-to-date cultural information.

5. The teacher integrates cultural concepts as inseparable components in the process of language instruction.

7K 4. The teacher recognizes that an understanding of culture is related to and reinforced by insights gained from other disciplines.

  • Students will identify ways in which their culture influences their perspective on events and situations.

The class will understand that other cultures exist and the influences of those culture.

  • Students will identify cultural influences on others.
  • Students will determine how culture influences other's reactions.
  • Students will analyze the reactions of others to events.

The class will understand that people's reactions to events and/or situations are different.

  • Students will analyze the ways in which films are changed from one culture to another.
  • Students will contrast and compare reactions of people to current events on the basis of cultural perspective.
