At a time when baritone jazz vocalists are at a premium, Lemuel West brings his interpretations in a rich bartione often compared to Billy Eckstine and Johnny Hartman. Prior to his conversion to JAZZ, West sang mostly in the Sacramento,CA area with Country-Western bands, in cabaret shows, and R & B with the Drifters. He appeared most recently at the 1999 Vallejo (CA) JAZZ Festival as vocalist for the Calvin Keys Trio and was Featured on the Cover of July 1999 Jazz Now. Born and raised in San Francisco, West, as he is most often called, learned his vocal prowess through church gospel, singing with friends on street corners to pass the time, and in school events.
