March 14, 2003 There's a new article up that's just barely Snickety, but still a fun read.

March 6, 2003 Howdy! I've started my own discussion board for you to use.

February 27, 2003 A new article says that people from Wilmington, NC are still trying to get the Snicket production out there.

February 24, 2003 A new article about the production states that despite primary photography being planned for Los Angeles, some shooting should take place on location as well.

February 20, 2003 Brad Silberling is the new director of the Lemony Snicket movie. Like Sonnenfeld before him, Silberling has previously directed Christina Ricci. Filming is scheduled to begin in October in LA, with a projected Christmas 2004 release.

February 17, 2003 I finally posted an article from last week about how New Corp, which owns the rights to the Lemony Snicket film, made a profit last year. Nothing too exciting.

February 4, 2003 Another new but mostly useless article about the film's troubles is up in 'articles.'

January 29, 2003 A new but completely useless article concerning Jim Carrey is now up.

January 13, 2003 Barry Sonnenfeld is no longer directing! Now Dreamworks is involved, and they're definitely planning for a 2004 release. Check 'articles' for further details.

January 9, 2003 Check 'articles' for info on whom to contact concerning movie auditions!

January 2, 2003 Happy new year! There's a new article up, but it doesn't have any new info.

December 20, 2002 There's a link to a great video file over in 'Multi-media.' Lucy Gallagher e-mailed the following link to me:
My Entertainment World
" LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS - February, 2003 - North Carolina; Details Are only Available By Subscription.. STORY: The film is about a three unlucky siblings. (Posted: December 23, 2002) "

I don't know how the posting date can be correct, but whatever...

December 19, 2002 According to Yahoo! Movies:
" Production is now tentatively scheduled to start sometime in 2003 after Jim Carrey wraps filming of 'The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. "

The Jim Carrey Online page about The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind says that the film " starts principal photography in mid-January, 2003 in New York City. "

I guess the Snicket film won't be out until 2004. (Unless, of course, they decide to re-cast Count Olaf...)

December 17, 2002 hpgrrlfan on the CountingDown board posted the following yesterday:
" Address for Casting Director!
" HAHA! Kate once again succeeds! After countless e-mails and a bunch of web site checking I got an e-mail form the lovely Rachel (who was the las one to post on this post!) and I thank her very much!
" Anyway, here's the address:
" Avy Kaufman/
" 180 Varick Street, 16th Floor
" New York, NY 10014
" YAY! ::does happy dance:: Remember to send in the all the information you need to on a resume!
" well.tootles. "
I hadn't thought to cyber-stalk the casting director. That's inspired!

December 16, 2002 Casting for Violet and Klaus over the weekend took place in Boston, Chicago, New York, Vancouver and Toronto. Get details in the articles section.
According to Yahoo! News, the tight budget is what moved the production from New York City to Wilmington, NC. Director Barry Sonnenfeld is still working with Paramount on cutting the budget enough to make the studio happy. Until they reach an agreement, seems that the start date for filming has been indefinitely postponed. I guess the stingey execs don't think that all of the rabid Snicket fans across the globe will be interested in a fabulous movie. Silly execs!

December 13, 2002 Oh lucky day! Just posted in The Chicago Sun Times
CASTING CALL: Paramount Pictures is holding an open call, seeking a 10-to-12-year-old girl and an 8-to-9-year-old boy to star in "A Series of Unfortunate Events," a film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, based on the Lemony Snicket children's books. The casting call takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Northbrook Court Shopping Center (Northeast entrance by Becca D'Oro restaurant, upper level in Neiman Marcus Court). Bring a non-returnable current photo.
Presumably, similar casting calls will be taking place in other cities as well. Keep your eyes posted on your local papers!

Oh, and it seems that Scott Rudin left the production because Paramount was trying to hold back the budget for the first film.

December 12, 2002 According to Variety, Scott Rudin is no longer producing. Ain't it Cool News reports that production will take place in North Carolina, in the same studio where Dawson's Creek is filmed. Check the articles section for further details.

December 5, 2002 PunctilioReporter at The Malicious Message Board posted the following totally unconfirmed report this morning:

"My cousin works in New York for a acting agency and when I called yesterday (my whole family called becuz it's my aunt's birthday) she said that

"JOAN CUSAK is Aunt Josephine
"EMMA TOMSON is Justice Strauss
"and...drum roll please...
"JONNY DEPP is LEMONY SNICKET!!!!!!"

Can anybody confirm or deny these allegations?

November 26, 2002 Two new links, one in German.

November 25, 2002 The Internet Movie Database finally has an entry for the Lemony Snicket movie, but they misspelled Mr. Handler's name. So I sent 'em a correction. Anyways, I've found an interview from earlier this month (available in the articles section) that discusses both the film and The Carnivorous Carnival.

November 21, 2002 There's a new link up, not with any new info, though. And isn't that Christian Coulson who plays Tom Riddle just dreamy?

November 15, 2002 I've just posted some new links and a little article on the UE.net news from earlier this week.

November 13, 2002 Our affiliate, Unfortunate Events.net received the following exclusive yesterday from an undisclosed ASoUE source:
"There's a chance the movie might not come out holiday 2003. It might be pushed back to spring 2004. This has not been decided yet, so keep your fingers crossed."
"The movie will be shot on location in New York- in the city and in other parts of the state." This should be interesting to see how they incorporate all the elements of Snicket's world into a NY shoot.
Many people have contacted UE.net asking about auditions. Sorry to say that there's still no news here, but our contact said this much: "I don't know if they're happening yet. But any kids who are interested in auditioning should try to find out through agents and casting agencies. It's extremely rare for a Hollywood movie to do an open call audition to the general public."

I would prefer a great film in 2004 over a poor film in 2003.

November 12, 2002 Jim Carrey Online, Coming Soon! and the Hollywood Stock Exchange have all reported that the film will hit theatres on December 19, 2003; and that production is set to begin on Sunday December 1, 2002. I have no idea where they got those dates, though.

November 11, 2002 Welcome to Verifiable Film Data! Please click around the site, and return for future updates.
