next day's entry
adjusting to british life...

Hullo mum and dad and everybody!
How are you? Greetings from the United Kingdom! I'm currently sitting in my room trying to avoid the oppressive pot-smell emanating from my 1500-SAT-score-fluent-in-7-languages-California-surfer-dude-look-alike flatmate from Sweden or Switzerland or one of those countries that starts with an S (he's from one but his ancestry is from the other)...this is a guy who made "special" gingerbread cookies on Thursday and proceeded to give one to an unknowing Japanese friend, Noah (who wants to be a pilot for Japan Airlines). Noah then replied that the Swedish guy "is very bad," and "if he ever listed as passenger on my plane, I won't let him on!" The saga of my flat continues...and I continue to be holed up in my room!
Anyway, I've had quite an uneventful week...I don't seem to remember the majority of it! London has had unusually beautifully weather, sunny practically every day, and most days, such as today, are complete sun all day with no clouds. :) My umbrella has been used--1 x--since I arrived in London a month ago. A little Italian bird has told me that Rome is making up for it, though! :oP I'm trying to soak in this sunshine while it lasts, since I've heard that this weather is rather infrequent here!!
I got sick on Tuesday or Wednesday, and still don't know if I've got the flu, mono, or a cold. No need to recap that one, but it's certainly limited what I've done! I've studied quite a bit, since I have an oral report this week, but it's rather strange having to go to the library every time you want a book! (British students borrow all of their books from the library, and it can be a hassle when there's one book for 45 students) By Saturday, I was feeling good enough to go out, so I went out with some British friends to the Chinese New Year celebrations in Chinatown followed by some antique-book-shopping in Covent Garden. The great thing about London is that the weather is always warm, so on the weekends there are huge crowds at outdoor festivals everywhere! I went to at least two outdoor markets yesterday and saw plenty of others, and there's even a local outdoor market in our neighbourhood where you can get the yummiest fruits and veggies (you can see pics of this market and my other weekend journeys at http://www.geocities.com/lemonaid_98).
That's pretty much all that's new from me! Today I did a lot of studying...actually, it was more thinking about how I should be studying, and then pushing such guilt out of my head. :) Next weekend I'm off to Bath and then off to Edinburgh in two weeks, for a week (since we have our first week off beginning Feburary 9). I love this life!!
