Obitutary for George Frederick Wilhelm Lemke, Sr.

1892 - 1955

George Fred Williams Lemke, 62, Pharmacist's Mate, USN, (ret.), died unexpectedly at his residence, 105 Sedgefield Drive, Greenfield Farms, yesterday morning.

A native of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he had been a resident of Norfolk since 1932. He was a son of Mrs. Catherine Roll Lemke, of Buffalo, N.Y., and the late William Lemke.

Mr. Lemke entered the United States Navy in 1912 and was retired in 1932 but was recalled to duty during World War II. He served a total of 30 years.

He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 60, Ocean View, which will hold memorial services.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Snyder Lemke; a daughter, Mrs. Garth J. May, of Jacksonville, Fla; two sons, George F. W. Lemke, Jr., of Newport News, and Albert E. Lemke, of Norfolk; two grandchildren, and two brothers, Carl Lemke and Albert W. Lemke, both of Buffalo.

The body was taken to the Cox Funeral Home pending completion of arrangements. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with full military honors.
