Some time after the Old Scales Ones nuked themselves into several mega-tons of overdone gecko-burgers, a tiny percentage of the more sober Lemites realized that no one was hunting them, the trash was really starting to pile up, and there hadn't been any welfare checks in the mail (or any mail for that matter) for a very, very long time.

So, in the hopes of wheedling some foreign aid out of a few gullible races (or at least get them to pick up the trash), the Lemites gathered from all the known burrows to form a Confederacy. They partied for several weeks, and decided to form a new Government.

Posessed of the vague notion that the best form of government is one that barely functions, the Lemites decided in a flurry of ballot-box stuffing to elect only one of them to be the leader. The Lemite Head-of-Government,known as the "Head Squek", carried out such exacting duties as collecting bribes, judging "Wet Fur" contests, collecting bribes, cadging drinks from starport visitors, and commanding that armed and drunken four-wheeling rabble laughingly known as the Lemite Militia.

There was also a Parlimentary body called the Great Burrow. Officially the Great Burrow was suppposed to propose laws to the Head Squek. Fortunately for the average Lemite, Great Burrow Members (who were selected on the size of the bribe they make to their burrow leader) were generally partying and having way too much fun to do anything resembling law-proposing.

The Lemite Confederacy collapsed after the Lemites were nearly wiped out in an attack in 185.

Currently the official Lemite government is known as the Lemite Autonomous Region. The Autonomous Region is governed by a committee known as the Lemite Council, composed of representatives from all the burrows.

The Capitol of the Lemite Autonomous Region is presently located in LEM Korlus.

The monetary unit used the 'Stellar'. It's the same currency used throughout known space.
