8/30/04 This is going to be our last update until we get to Hawaii because we will be in Canada for 9 days visiting our friend Kelly, who we havent seen since our wedding. Which so happens to have been exactly two years Tuesday the 31st! Seattle is a beautiful city with a lot to see. We stopped at a visitor center for Mount Saint Helens Mountain/volcano on our way up. We watched a movie about the eruption, which happened in 1980, and got a couple of distant pictures. We took a trolley tour (of course) around the city getting off at a few stops. The first stop was to take a tour of the underground city, which is technically the first floor of Seattle. Seattle was built on a tide flat and had many problems with water and sewage so they had a project to raise the streets. They shut down the underground area in 1907 because of rats and plague (nice huh?!?) Now they give tours! Its neat because you see store fronts, old signs, old sidewalks and skylights.also cobwebs, dirt and a funny guide. Seattle has a long history of doing dumb things this is one of them. We did see the first Starbucks coffee shop, so they did something right! We then stopped off at the Space Needle where we had an awesome view of the whole city and Mount Rainier, which is the highest mountain in the Cascades. One of the tour guides at the top of the Needle mentioned that they havent seen the mountain in over a week and a half because of clouds!!! Its so beautiful with the snow on top. How funny, yet again the weather was perfect for us. We then went to a dinner/ show event that had a 45-min boat ride to Blake Island where they had Tillicum Village. It reminded us a lot of a Hawaiian luau, yet it was of the Native American culture of the Pacific Northwest. There was a traditional salmon bake and stage show of traditional tribe dances and costumes. It was so neat, plus we had some time to hang out around the island where we saw some deer grazing that we were able to get pretty close to. On the boat ride we spent time going thru a lot of our memories of the trip because we cant believe that this is our last night on mainland USA for a while. It has been an incredible journey and we have enjoyed sharing it with you. So many of our dreams are coming true and we wish the same for you, follow your dreams, what ever they may be and no matter where they may lead you. Take it from us its worth the fears and doubts no matter where you are in your life right now. Its all about choices, only we have the freedom to choose what we want out of life. (From Keith)next is Vancouver, then Hawaii on Sept 9th. We will indeed update the site with the Vancouver update, and a wrap up of the trip. Look for that in a week or so. Thanks!!!
