Elephant
Trunk Hill, Elephant Eye Rock, and Cloud Peak Temple Like a huge
elephant drinking by the riverside, Elephant Trunk Hill is known as
time immortal, standing at the Taohua (Peach Blossom) and Li River.
The Elephant Eye
Rock is perched high up on the hill, with a hole running between the
elephant's trunk and its body. Its reflection in the water is uncannily
similar to that of the full moon, lending to the name, "Moon in the
Water" Arch.
On the cave walls, more than 50 pieces of carved
inscriptions
dating back to different periods appear. Above the
hill stands the Samantabhadra Pagoda which has
been there for than 400 years. The Cloud Peak
Temple in the foothills was first built during the
Tang Dynasty, and rebuilt in 1980. It houses a
permanent exhibition of relics of the Taiping
Heavenly Kingdom Revolution in Guilin.
