Pearl's show news.04/11/2003 - Nor Cal Japanese Chin Fanciers (Sacramento) Pearl won Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Breed and a 5 point major under judge Mr. L. Reppond! She also won Winners Bitch, Best of Opposite under judge Ms Sandra Oslen in the Sweepstakes! I am proud to say that I handled her myself in both the sweeps and regular classes. Pearl also became an AKC Champion today. 02/15/2003 - Oakland Kennel Club (Vallejo) Pearl won Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Breed today under judge Mr. C. Herendeen. She also won 2 points, making her total 13 points. She only needs 2 more points to become a champion. I handled her today and I was very happy that she was happy to show well for me. 02/15/2003 - Nor Cal Toy Dog Fanciers (Santa Clara) Pearl won Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and a 3-pt major today under judge Mr. Bradley Jenkins! Tammy handled her today. It was a special major today because Brad bred Pearl's mother and father, but not her. Even though he didn't recognise Pearl when he chose her to be Best of Winner, it was obvious that he liked her type very much. I was only glad to be able to say hi and introduce myself and Pearl. 02/01/2003 - Golden Gate Kennel Club (Daly City) Pearl won Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Breed, and a 4-pt major today under judge Mr. Edd Bivin! Lois and Tammy handled her beautifully, and Pearl was nearly placed in the groups under judge Mr. Leonard Reppond. Apparently he told Tammy that if Pearl hadn't lowered her tail due to a kid whistling sharply, he would have placed her. I am so, so proud of Pearl. This is her very first benched show, and though she liked the attention from so many admirers, she was very exhausted on the second day of the show. 10/27/2002 - Sacramento Valley Dog Fanciers Association, Inc. (Dixon) Pearl must have started her heat cycle today because she wouldn't stop humping our legs or barking at nothing in the middle of the night. Her behaviour was eratic and she kept wanting to run around in the show ring?! Trudie's comment about females in heat not showing well is definitely true. Pearl won Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex today under judge Mrs Ann K. Summa. 10/26/2002 - Sacramento Valley Dog Fanciers Association, Inc. (Dixon) Pearl strutted around beautifully in the ring and even cocked her little head at judge Dr. Robert D. Smith while free-baiting. She must have charmed him because she won Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Breed, gaining one more point! 09/21/2002 - Santa Ana Valley KC Dog Show (Cypress) After more practice on grass on Saturday, Pearl finally did me proud by walking prettily around the show ring on Sunday, thus posing a serious challenge to her wagging tail opponent! Sadly, she still lost and came in Second in 6-9 months (bitches) under judge Mr. Robert Stein. 09/20/2002 - Santa Ana Valley KC Dog Show (Cypress) This was Pearl's first outdoors show. It was difficult getting her to walk on grass. Grass meant playtime and sniffing -time, so there she was sniffing around like hound dog in the ring. I was uncomfortable with this show because I wasn't even asked to present Pearl individually. The judge, Ms Denny Mounce asked us to stack our dogs on the table, first come first serve and then walk in a little tight circle together. It was very rushed. I was nervous and Pearl couldn't care less - she was high on the grassy odors. She won Second in 6-9 months (bitches) for all her bad behaviour. She needs to learn to wag her tail at the judge during free-baiting time. 09/14/2002 - Sir Francis Drake Dog Show (San Rafael) Third show. Pearl felt more comfortable with the show ring this time. With the encouragement of Trudie Rossi (a friend and chin breeder from Sacramento), I decided to try my hand again at showing Pearl. It actually wasn't that bad this time, Pearl walked with much confidence and actually seemed to enjoy herself. She won First in 6-9 months (bitches), Winners bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Opposite Sex and even Best-of-Breed Puppy! She gained one point today under judge Mr Randy E. Garren. Yay! 09/08/2002 - Redwood Empire KC Dog Show (Petaluma) Second show. This time, I had cold feet, and I decided that I would let a professional handler do the job. I had met Tammy Rutter of Pekingese Rescue just the day before, who very kindly lent me a comb and a show lead (I was too nervous on Saturday and forgot my grooming stuff!). As Tammy had a conflict with the show times, she recommended Lois Thomas of the House of AiKou (Pekes). Lois is a very experienced handler, and this time, she and Pearl really hit it off. Pearl strutted around beautifully in the ring and she won First in 6-9 months (bitches), Winners bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex! She gained two points towards her championship. Thank you, judge Mrs Cynthia Sommers (on the left) and Lois (on the right)!
09/07/2002 - Redwood Empire KC Dog Show (Petaluma) This was Pearl's first time round in the ring, and both she and I had cold feet. My nervousness and agitation probably spread to Pearl for she decided that she didn't want to walk. She still won First in 6-9 months (bitches) and Reserve Winners. The judge, Mrs Glenda Dawkins, remarked that it was a pity that Pearl refused to walk, else she could have done better. 08/25/2002 - Skyline Dog Fanciers AKC 'B' Match This was Pearl's very first fun match. She kept fidgeting and turning until she was 180 degrees about by the time the judge, Mr Roy Stenmark, finished examinging her! But she won her first Best of Breed and a Group 3! |
