James Cullen was born in New Ross in 1841.Excessive drinking plagued Ireland.Fr Cullen became Convinced of the needed for a christ-Centered Organisation.On December 28th, 1889 in a parlor in Gardiner street Dublin 1, The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association was founded.Members were strictly chosen, tested and organised and most importantly wore a badge to show their dedication.The pioneers prospered, becoming an important part of irish religion scene, represented a great surge of devotion to the heart of the lord.The Pioneers were Frather Cullens central concern for the last years of his life.
