In the present day, real-world people are spending their time playing a role-playing game in which their personas travel and interact within a fantasy world. But one of the characters, a cipher named Tsukasa, is suddenly locked within the game, and those around him aren't sure why ... or how. While any player should be able to just disconnect or shut off the computer he or she is on, Tsukasa doesn't even see a computer. He is IN The World. And a mysterious cat-like character hovers around the fringes, bending the programming - indeed the very "existence" of The World to his will. And a group of player characters must figure out the truth behind Tsukasa ... while a rash of mysterious game-related incidents in the real world begins to draw the attention of even the most powerful players within the game. .hack//Legend of the Twilight Four years ago, the legendary .hackers Kite and Black Rose were deleted from "The World". Their accounts were permanently banned, and were rendered inoperable. These hackers are known far and wide for their greatest feat ever. It is an event feared by all members of "The World", so much so that the CC Corporation is willing to do anything to prevent this event from happening. This disastrous event is known only as Twilight. Shuugo and Rena's parents were separated when they were young, and now they live apart. One day, Shuugo received an email informing him that he'd won a contest as part of the "Limited Edition Character" campaign. Rena wins Black Rose, and Shuugo wins Kite, both the costumes of the infamous hackers. To top it off, he receives an invitation from Rena to join her in "The World". But on their first time in the game, disaster strikes when they are attacked by an extremely high level monster where there should be none at all. With even the System Administrator unable to defeat the monster, Shuugo is killed almost immediately. But as he is fading out, a beautiful girl named Aura greets him. Bathed in a ring of light, she bestows upon him Twilight's Bracelet, the key to Twilight. She leaves him with these haunting words: "If you use the Data Drain, you can defeat him. The only one who can save the world... is you. The one to continue the legend of .hackers. |
