THE LION
Like a lion in a cage-
the passersby will never know,
all the anger and the rage-
all the things she doesn't show.
So non-chalant the lion is-
she seems to live without a care.
Then the man soon enters
carrying whip and chair.
She performs her tricks,
receives her food,
lives sheltered from the rain.
But look deep into the lion's eyes,
and you will see the pain.
The lion is so cooperative,
yet when the door is opened
she is chained.
Though she seems complacent now,
the lion's heart is never tamed.
Someday the man may look away,
not noticing the crack in the door.
And when all is silent,
and his guard is down-
he just may hear the lion roar.
