The Mother's Curse

THE MOTHER'S CURSE

The Mother's Curse-
so quickly cast,
I've laid upon my child.
May you have many
children like you-
out of control and wild.
May you, with
bucket full of soap,
clean crayon off the wall.
May you pay
for broken windows,
shattered by a ball.
You will wake
at two a.m.,
to change a pukey sheet.
You will fight
the losing battle
of keeping their room neat.
May you listen
to the constant whining,
like drilling in your ears.
May you panic
in the morning
when the keys have disappeared.
You will watch
the Power Rangers
one thousand times a day.
You will deal with
temper tantrums
when they don't get their way.

But along with the curse
that I have cast,
there is a bright side too.
You will discover
the many blessings
that I've placed on you.
May you smile,
full of pride,
as they sing in the school play.
May they color
pictures for you
that will brighten the darkest day.
You will laugh
at the jokes they tell,
and the stories they wil share.
You will be spellbound
by their sweetness,
as they cuddle a teddy bear.
May you enjoy
the games you'll play,
and their victorious wins.
May you be awed
by their innocence,
that comes from deep within.
You will know
love unsurpassed,
as this Mother's Curse comes true.
You will be blessed
with the spell I've cast:
To have a child just like you.
