| US History since 1865 HIST 2020 Summer 2007 Abridged Course Syllabus --- The information supplied here is only an abridged syllabus. Students should consult the website at webct.rodp.org. in order to view the complete syllabus. --- This course is a continuation of US History to 1877, HIST 2010. While it is not required that these courses are taken in sequence, students find it is often useful to do so in order to maintain the continiuity of the material. This is particularly the case for majors in history, social sciences, or other degrees in related fields. In short, continuity helps history seem a lot more logical!! In this course, there will be three major projects that are required of each student: --- the midterm, due at about the seventh week of the course; --- the term paper, which consists of three options (see below); --- and the final exam. All exams are essay style and will be sent and received via the Assignment Drop Box on Web CT and NOT to any email address. Typical correspondence should be sent to my email address through the Web CT site. However, in the event of a server outage, students can contact the instructor via this address. When considering a topic for the Term Paper, students have three choices: 1. a research paper with at least two scholarly journals, 2. an analysis of one day's news coverage by a particular newspaper, or 3. a book review. The HIST 2020 website gives a detailed description of each project. The choice of the project is left to the student. However, it is imperative that the student consults with the instructor concerning the project at least two weeks before the deadline. For ideas for possible research papers, students may consider viewing my rudimentary compilation of my favorite media, located here. For complete details of the requirements for each project, please visit our class site located at webct.rodp.org. All students are also required to post to the discussion board weekly, addressing the topics of relevance as listed in the Schedule of Assignments. This schedule is posted on the WebCT calendar located on the course site. This page is growing, so check back soon for updates! |
