Biographical Information
After graduating from Eastern, Jim attended Michigan State University (BA 1966) and the University of Notre Dame (MS 1972). He has basically had three careers, teaching high school math in Baltimore County, Maryland, (1966-1972) and Prince William County, Virginia, (1982-1989), serving as treasurer and operations manager for a family manufacturing business (1972-1981), and working as a Physical Scientist in Army Research and Development (1989 to present). He met his wife, Claudia, while attending
Michigan State. She grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, graduating from Montgomery Blair High School (Silver
Spring, MD) in 1964. They were married in 1965. They currently reside in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, where Claudia works in retail.
Jim and Claudia have three surviving children: Dawn Barbee, Tara Howry,
and Ian McManamey; and six grandchildren. Dawn and her husband live a few miles from Jim and Claudia in Dumfries, Virginia. They have one daughter, Kathryn. Tara and her husband live about 300 miles from Jim and Claudia in
New Bern, North Carolina. They have three children, Ryan, Tori (Victoria), and Jaiden. Ian
and his wife live about 110 miles from Jim and Claudia in the little town of Heathsville, Virginia. They have a son, Ethan, and twp daughters, Emily and Meredith. A second son, Shaun, passed away in December, 2003.
Jim not only works with computers (modeling, simulation, and data analysis) but he also has 2 that he �plays with� as a hobby. He is active in church, teaching Sunday School to adults and serving in other ways as the opportunity presents itself. He and Claudia enjoy day trips in the area surrounding Washington, DC, and occasional longer trips. They also enjoy a variety of activities with their family. Jim still enjoys reading science fiction and listening to a wide variety of music. As with most homeowners, Jim also spends much of his time with household tasks. He and Claudia look forward to retiring in a few more years (date not yet set).
