Biographical Information

Following High School, Ed joined a multitude of Teacher candidates at Michigan State University. Upon completion of a BioSci major, he called upon most every School System within a hundred miles. Needless to say, not many were interested in hiring someone who took 10 years to complete his BS. So, Ed deposited his teaching certificate in a trunk of memorabilia and embarked on a multifaceted, non-professional career. With an incredible display of versatility, Ed managed to be eminently involved in the closure of 7 businesses in Lansing: Newlin's (he nickel and dimed them to death), Arlan's Discount Department Store (yup, he was there when the elephant went shopping), Trio Sandwich Shop, F.N. Arbaugh Co., Wurzburgs, Sperry & Hutchinson, and Secord's Standard Service (two locations, no less). Additionally, during his employment at General Motors he helped close the doors on their departmental businesses of Heat Treat, Chrome Plating, Engine Assembly, Injection Mold, SMC and the Chem Lab. If it were not for early retirement, he would have closed GM/Lansing Metal Fab also. The only employer to survive Ed's participation was the U.S. Army/Artillery Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Sill (OCS) and Viet Nam ('68).

Ed and his wife Sue reside in a rural area just north of the Red Cedar River between Williamston and Okemos, MI. Sue retired as the Administrative Assistant for Valid Corp. which had 4 "Wicks & Sticks" franchises. Ironically on April Fools Day 2004, Ed retired from General Motors. Now free from the daily grind, they heartily pursue mutual interests in lighthouses, waterfalls and the delights of six grandchildren from four daughters. They also share a fondness for the performing arts. Though not recently on stage, and never professionally, Ed truly enjoys all aspects of the theater. He was the Producer for "Ministry of Laughter" at a Lansing Church for 10 years as well as having significant roles in a dozen comedies. He also likes to write. Probably his most notable creation is a melodramatic comedy which won a CTAM-Amateur Playwright's award. His other two plays got more laughs than acclaim.

Even though Ed has also authored some serious stuffprocedural manuals and Team Build handbooks for GM, seminars to build interpersonal skills, and Sunday School lesson plans, he is inclined toward frivolity in his writings. "I write intending to challenge people to think," claims Ed. "If I fall short of that, at least I hope I cause them to laugh". Sometimes, his writings do both.
