Journey to Rivendell
Legolin leads a band through the forests of Egladil
As young Legolin grew into manhood, he began to long more for the wilderness, the forests, and distant lands of Middle Earth. He was not content working in the shipyards of his adopted city of Grey Havens, he longed to return to his home in the woods of Mirkwood, for although he was a Sindarin Prince, the Silvan love of the woodlands was strong in him.
One day he spoke his heart to his teacher and friend, Ramil the Ranger, who warned him that although he was strong of heart and body, he was not ready to brave the dangers of Mirkwood, rather if his heart was bent on travel he should journey to Rivendell, the Last Homely House in the West, nestled in the valley of Imladris and under the protection of the wise Elrond Half-Elven.
Bidding farewell to Ramil, his mother, and protector Cirdain, Legolin left the Havens, his home since childhood, and set off to find his destiney. He traveled over many miles, saw many lands and met many travelers, he saw the green hills of the Shire and the cosy town of Bree, and after weeks of travel neared Rivendell, yet the most dangerous part of his journey still lay ahead. The Wild, a dangerous forest inhabited by theives, wolves, and worse still lay between Legolin and Rivendell.
One night while at camp in the depths of the forest, Legolin was awakened by a distant howl. Looking into the hills he saw the light of a campfire, for a reason unknown to him he decided to investigate. As he neared, creeping steathily through the pines he heard the sounds of battle. Entering a clearing he saw two young Dwarven warriors standing back to back surrounded by a pile of wolf corpses, their mighty axes cleaving them by the dozens, but numbers began to show against the dwarves.
A huge wolf lept towards one of the dwarves, but Legolin was faster, his arrow piercing the wolf's heart. With there leader dead the wolves ran off into the night.
The two warriors introcduced themselves as Bagon and Bosanova, who were trying to find their way to Rivendell. Despite the natural emnity between the two races, the trio became fast friends. The next day Legolin led his companions out of the forest to Rivendell. Here Legolin grew in woodland lore, Bosanova became the only dwarf to be close friends with Elrond, and Bagon went onto become a great warrior. Yet they never forgot that night in the forest, and the friendship they found there.
