Title: Fires of Deceit ~ The End Author: Black Raven Rating: PG-13 or PG-18 Feedback: Huge thanks to Avarliel, JoMarie and to Susan. Please head all feedback as Fires of Deceit at alanna_of_trebond_tortall_and_olau@hotmail.com Disclaimer: I don't own any of Tolkien's characters, but Emily, Janie, Sarah, the king and queen, and Patrick are my character. Also, the Dead Keepers and Lintians are my characters, and cannot be used under ANY circumstances. The Dead Keepers cornered Sarah. 'Good move, Sarah' she thought to herself. She had already lost her two daggers and her sword had been burnt to an unpleasant crisp, thanks to the Lintians. 'Seriously, what am I going to do?' Sarah thought to herself for the thousandth time. 'I really do not believe in dying with honor, cause seriously, it doesn't any good.' How could her journey have gone so wrong? She had come to help Emily, which she seemed to have failed in, and now she had a feeling that the Raven hadn't gotten the message out. She saw a crack in the stone wall that she had been cornered into. It seemed like it had been years ago that she had found the woman's body, though it had only been a day. Looking back at the hole in the wall, just big enough for her to get through, she knew that it was her only escape. Taking off an elastic from around her wrist, she shot it in the face of one of the Dead Keepers, giving her some time to get away. She crawled through the small openings in the rock afraid of what might become of her. That's when it happened. She heard rock crumbling, pressing downwards, giving way. In one quick moment, there was no breathing that could be heard, there was only a crushed body. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ The Fellowship had now been broken up. Boromir was dead, Frodo and Sam had left for Mount Doom, Merry and Pippen were with the Ents, and Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn were in Helm's deep. Legolas looked over the plain, his thoughts never leaving Janie and Emily. He had been thinking about Emily less, however, and had been thinking more of Janie. He had often thought about marriage, which would mean him giving up his title of Prince of Mirkwood. He was willing to give it all up, as long as he could be with Janie. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ Janie stood numb. Emily's body lay in the stream. She kneeled down beside her and reached for her hand but when she did try to hold Emily's hand, she realized that in Emily's hand, there was a green leaf. Janie picked up the body and mounted it on her horse. Janie then mounted, the body in front of her. She rode of to Lineri, determined to give Emily a proper burial. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ Janie dismounted from her horse and then picked up Emily. Janie walked down the path to the castle, her heart beating wildly. She didn't like the fact that she was carrying her best friend, dead. 'It could be worse.' She thought to herself. 'Sarah could be dead too.' Janie kicked open the door to the room of grieving. She then realized that the king and queen were looking over a body. For some reason, Janie felt as if she had walked in at a very wrong time. She lay Emily down in a corner and then crushed herself as close to the wall as possible. She strained to hear what their majesties were saying. "Please dear, tell me how our son has died! I am his mother, I have every right to know!" The queen exclaimed hysterically. "It was an elf." The king started. "Our son heard someone in the stables late at night, and went to investigate. One of the guards said that the elf was about to hurt a young woman, that, Emily knight. The elf must have placed a spell on her, for she claimed that she loved the elf. Our son tried to save her, and Emily fled. The elf killed our son, even though the prince caused him no harm." Janie was now shaking violently. Somehow, though she could not explain it, she felt as if the story had been twisted far beyond truth. An elf? Which elf? Janie watched as the king and queen left. She placed Emily on a table, as far away from the prince as she could. Janie then left the same way the king and queen had. Janie entered the throne when she was sure their majesties were settled. "Your majesties, it is I, Janie Valdone." "What is it that you have come for?" The king questioned. "I have found Emily Norime, dead. I have come to request a proper burial for her. I am not sure how she died, but I found her dead in a stream." "You know more to the story." The king announced coldly. "Yes, I heard from one of the guards." Janie lied between her teeth. "I find it hard to believe that an elf killed the prince just because." "Well he did, and we WILL put him to death when we find him." The queen said. "Perhaps this is going off the subject, but do you know his name?" Janie ventured. "Why?" questioned the king suspiciously. "Because if I overheard the name in a tavern, perhaps I could arrest him." Janie lied once again. A faint smile came across the king's face. "Yes, that would be very useful. However, I do not have an exact name. The guard, however, recognized him as the Prince of Mirkwood." Janie's face went a deathly white. She could barley utter "Thank you, your majesties, now I will take my leave." Janie staggered out of the room, shaking. She didn't realize someone was coming her way. "Hello Janie." Janie looked up, startled. It was Patrick, one of the guards. "Hello Patrick." "You've heard of the prince's death?" "Yes." "I was the first." "How?" Janie asked quietly. "I was the guard who saw the whole thing. I saw you in the hallway and I came to see you, since the murderer is probably still here, and I don't want you to be killed." Janie clenched her fists. "So you're the one who lied about the story!" "What do you mean?" Asked Patrick. "I know the full story, and it's nothing like what you said! The elf was protecting both himself AND Emily! It wasn't Legolas's fault!" As soon as the words left her mouth she regretted them. "How do you know his name?" Patrick was shaking with anger. Janie did not respond. "So, you too are involved in all of this! You probably knew about the murder the whole time!" "He didn't plan a murder." Janie's voice was crisp. "Oh really." Patrick started. "So then how exactly did you two know each other?" Janie decided to give him the truth "Because I slept with Legolas!" Patrick looked as if he had taken a sword to the heart. "But I was to marry you!" Now it was Janie's turn to look shocked. "WHAT?" "I asked the king if I could marry you, he said you were all mine." Patrick told her, moving closer and closer to her. Janie backed up more and more, her mind racing, her heart pounding. He almost had her cornered. He went in to kiss her but was stopped as he felt a blade jabbed into his stomach. He fell backwards, onto the floor. Janie could hear people coming as she quickly shoved his body into the shadows. Janie ran down the hallway, afraid that her legs might give out. Running out into the courtyard, she was oblivious to everything around her. She never heard the warning, wasn't aware that a part of the castle had broken off during construction. The rocks came flying down, hitting everything. Everything went black for Janie, and finally, her very being was lost amongst the rubble. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ Legolas sat in the waiting room. What had brought him there, he didn't know. He felt as if everything bad had happened at once. He had found out about Emily's death, how even though she had destroyed the jewel and broken the spell, Lintians had gotten her. Her body was found in a river and now she had been given a proper burial. He found out that he supposedly planned to kill the prince and had spelled Emily. The guard who had started the lie was dead, now one knew who killed him. He also learned that Emily's best friend, a girl named Sarah, had tried to help Emily and then tried to find Legolas but had died in a trench in a cave when she was escaping from the Dead Keepers. A doctor came out from intensive care unit, his face blank. Legolas walked up to him. "There was supposed to be a Janie Valdone here, where might she be?" Legolas asked softly. The doctor went through his papers of all of the patients. "She isn't in here, though I remember there being a Janie Valdone brought in here with life threatening injuries. I'm sorry… but she must have passed away." Legolas felt numb, he couldn't walk away. He stood there, thinking about Janie, about everything that had happened. He turned around. The One Ring still had to be destroyed, and that was his duty. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ The female paramedic looked down on the girl. The girl's eyes were open and functioning, her breathing was normal, and except for the bruises, bumps, and cuts, she looked fine, though she wasn't. The paramedic had brought her here two days ago, and had come back after she heard the girl was alive and conscious. "Have you found out what her name is yet?" The paramedic questioned the doctor. "No." Responded the doctor. "She suffers from severe amnesia. Everything may come back to her one day however. I find it interesting that she is alive, especially after she was caught in a downfall of rocks." "I really hope she remembers her past." The paramedic inquired quietly. "Something tells me that she's had an interesting past, and she will most likely have a very interesting future." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ NOTE: Well, believe it or not, Fires of Deceit is over, though it seems as if there should be more. I tried to answer almost all of the questions, and perhaps, some day in the future, I will have answers to the story. As for now, I'm taking a break from writing fan fiction and am working on some other pieces of work. Thank you to those who read my stories, and an even bigger thank to those who gave me feedback! ~Black Raven (Sarah)
