Title: Fires of Deceit ~~~ Chapter 6 Author: Black Raven Rating: PG Feedback: PLEASE send me feedback, or else I’ll feel like no one is reading my stories. E-mail me at alanna_of_trebond_tortall_and_olau@hotmail.com Please subject all e-mails as Fires of Deceit Disclaimer: I obviously don’t own any of JRR Tolkeins characters, but the prince, Emily, Janie, and Sarah are my characters. (Those of you who know me will understand Sarah a little more. You’ll also understand why I own Sarah! Hee hee!) Emily was gone and the prince’s thoughts followed her, giving Legolas a chance to knock hid sword out of his hand. The prince turned around, unsheathing a dagger as he did so. Swinging it in a crescent moon, it came to Legolas’s neck. Legolas barely got out of the way in time, the dagger drawing a thin line of blood. He didn’t want to kill the prince, though he needed to knock him unconscious, or something that would stop him. The prince reminded Legolas of a child swinging a stick at a bird. He passed the thought away, wanting to keep his head clear. The realization that Legolas was either going to have to kill the prince or be killed slipped into his mind. He changed his grip on his knife, and drove it through the prince’s chest. He looked at the dead body, and felt no guilt. Sarah served on of the last customers before 5:00 and then got ready to leave Tara’s Corner. Janie was waiting outside for her, since she got off of work at the performing arts center at 4:30. Sarah had to find a place that she would like to work at in grade 0, even though she was only in grade 8. One of her teachers worked there on some weekends so she decided to try it, and liked it. As Sarah went to the back of the store to grab her coat, she couldn’t help but think about Emily. Sarah hadn’t talked to her in a long time. She lived in the 16th century kind of world, where as Sarah lived in a “modern” world. She opened the door to Janie’s black Sunfire. She practically threw herself onto the passenger seat. On the way home they talked about things they had bought friends and family for Christmas, how their days had been, and whatever else came up. Finally Janie pulled up to Sarah’s house. Sarah got out and didn’t go in until Janie had drove away. Sarah had the house to herself since her brother was spending the night at a friend’s house and her parents were spending the night at a spa. She had been planning on inviting some friends over, but for some reason she didn’t want to any more. She could feel trouble, it stained the air, making it hard to breathe. The raven waiting at the window answered the question. Sarah let it in and it perched itself on the back of a chair. She pressed her fingers against its head and listened to what the trouble was. When the message was done, Sarah almost dropped. She ran upstairs to her room and flung herself through the mirror, a portal to the Distant Lands. As soon as she was through, her hand flew to her sword to make sure it was there. There was trouble, and it all threatened Emily. Legolas found his companions resting, except for Aragorn who was sitting by the fire. “I’m not exactly sure what happened when I was under the spell, but I apologize.” Aragorn told Legolas when he was beside him. Legolas only nodded his head. Emily had broken the spell. If so, why wasn’t she back yet? The Fellowship traveled for two days when a massive blizzard struck, leaving them in Delna. The group broke off, and Legolas went to the common room of the Three Lemons Inn to think about Emily. He then realized that someone had come up to him. He looked up and met grey eyes. “Anyone sitting here?” The girl asked Legolas. Her voice wasn’t soft like the airheads that showed up at court all of the time, but it was more like Emily’s. “No.” He replied. “Would you care to join me…” “Janie.” She responded. She sat down. A blue headscarf held back her masses of curly red hair. “And you are…” “Legolas.” She smiled. “Hello Legolas. Thank you for letting me join you. I’m searching for a friend, and I was starting to get a little bit lonely.” “It’s my pleasure.” The two continued to talk for hours, and didn’t say their goodbyes until the town clock stroke four, four in the morning. Legolas watched as she left and realized that the whole time he had talked to her, not once did he worry about Emily. He left for his own sleeping corridors, thinking over what had happened. Sarah knelt down on the cold, white snow. Only where Sarah was looking, the snow wasn’t white. Red. Red blood covered the surface and although the body had been slashed and cut so many times she could still make out who it was. The victim’s eyes still looked up at her. Tears stung Sarah’s eyes. She touched the girl’s forehead as Sarah tried to stop the tears from falling. “Rest in peace my friend, and may God bring you to live with him in Heaven.” NOTE: I know you want to know who died. It was mean to leave the story like this. Also, please give me feedback! I live for it!!!!!!!
