Title: Fires of Deceit ~ Chapter 3 Author: Black Raven Rating: PG- 13 Feedback: alanna_of_trebond_tortall_and_olau@hotmail.com Disclaimer: Of course, I don’t own any of JRR Tolkien’s characters, but Emily and the Prince are my characters. Emily and Legolas had been traveling for half a day, and Legolas was surprised that Emily was still going without tiring too much that it was noticeable. Finally, Emily began to stumble ever so often. “We’ll be in Mendal by sundown. We’ll stay there for the night and then we can continue first thing tomorrow.” Legolas informed Emily when she began to look a little tired. As for Emily, she would have liked to continue walking through the night. It wasn’t because she was afraid of their pace, she found it to be quicker than needed, though she didn’t object. She was afraid to stop at an inn, where there would be an enclosed room, nowhere to run, nowhere to escape. She was still a little afraid of the kiss Legolas had given her. She kept thinking about her and the prince, and the fear of loving crept back into her heart. When they got into Mendal, they came to the Wandering Wolf. They came down to the restaurant and ordered. Once the waitress had left, Legolas reached across the table and took Emily’s hands in his. Emily looked up into his crystal blue eyes. Don’t look into his eyes! You’ll fall in love again! Part of Emily screamed. The other part, however, was screaming, He loves you! You love him too! Don’t fight what is meant to be! A smile touched Emily’s face, even though Emily was trying to be serious. Legolas had to smile too when he saw this, considering that this was the first time he’d ever seen her smile. He still wasn’t sure why she was so afraid, but he figured that he’d find out later. An hour later they retreated to their room, getting into bed quickly since they planned on leaving at 5 in the morning. Emily’s heart pounded in her chest, afraid of what might happen next, but nothing happened. She closed her eyes and let sleep come over her. ~ Emily woke to a gentle hand nudging her to wake up. At first Emily thought that she was being woken up one of the other knights in the camp, that there was an attack. Her surroundings came into view and she realized that she was in an inn room, and that Legolas was trying to get her up. She remembered why she was there, and got up. The room was ice cold, which was unusual for an inn like this. Usually inns like this were stifling hot. She looked up at Legolas and saw worry in his eyes. “What’s wrong?” Emily questioned, feeling as if she were in a dream. “My companions are here. An old man had seen us traveling and told them which way we had gone. They’re right downstairs.” “How did you find out?” “The innkeeper decided to take our side and came and told me. He went back down and pretended to no nothing of us. I paid him then, since there’s no getting out through the downstairs.” Emily knew where this was going. They were going to have to climb out of the window and go from there and even then they would probably be spotted. “We need to get horses.” Emily commented quietly. “They’ll be sure to see us, we need the speed.” “There’s the funny part.” Replied Legolas. “The horses that my companions used were from your camp. I heard that the horses gave them a lot of trouble. Perhaps we could use the horses, it would slow them down too.” Emily thought for a moment. “I guess so, but we better get out of here now.” Quietly pushing the window out, they climbed down from the second story and found the horses. The horses were about to make a commotion until they realized that one of the riders was Emily. They lead the horses out of the stable, and got no further. Aragorn and Gimli stood in front of them, blocking their escape. That’s when Emily realized that they didn’t see Legolas, and realized it was because of his Elvish cloak. A sword was raised to Emily’s throat. She felt her heart beat faster, realizing that she had been put up against the corner. She couldn’t see Legolas either. Fear crept into her brain, and she felt cold metal against her skin.
