Title: Aloneness as Destiny By: Brilaglar Rated:PG Feedback: SillySamwiseG@aol.com ********************************************* Chapter 10 Take My Breath Away Gweth leaned against Legolas's chest as he slithered an arm around her waist. She closed her eyes and listened to his breathing. More than ever in her life, she felt so thankful just to be alive. They both sat on a giant wall with their legs dangling down, facing towards the moon. He stroked her hair and rubbed her back, sometimes giving her soft kisses. "Speak," he murmured. She gave a puzzled look towards him. "I just want to hear your voice," he whispered. She smiled, fond of the feeling that he loved her as much as she loved him. It was something she thought would never happen to her again how it had before. "I love you," she whispered. "I love you too," he said with a laugh. She took a deep breath and let it echo in her mind. "Say it again," she said, leaning into him. "I love you more than life itself," he murmured in her ear. She felt his yielding lips tickle her ear lobe. She then heard him mumble a song. His voice was wonderful: 1 'Elven lady of the river was here long ago Her hair was gold and her face would glow Her feet danced on grass so gracefully And her hair would flow while glistening' She very much wanted him to stop. She felt her shoulders tighten from under him. But she still listened. She detested that song. 'Oh, Lady Nengwethal! Where does thou dwell? Are you lost in land of leaves so gold? Where do you dwell, O never old? The sunbeams glistened on your hair! O fair Lady, do they still settle there? 2 3 They say you sing the woods to life O, would you marry and be my wife? For you walk alone in grass so green But rarely speak and are seldom seen The men afar think of your face And travel far to find your place But where you lay no one can tell But still you are loved by all so well They say you sing the woods to life. O, would you marry and be my wife?' She paused. "You…You changed it!" she gasped. "Well, are you going to answer the question or not?" he asked. -FLASHBACK- Romilion held Gweth tightly in his arms. "Will you marry me? I love you too much to ever let you go," he muttered. She froze at his words. "Well?" Romilion asked. "Are you gonna answer or not?" -END OF FLASHBACK- "Gweth? Hello, Gweth!" Legolas waved a hand in Gweth's face. "Please say yes." "I…" she said as she stared in space. When she gained her wits she looked at him sadly and crawled down from the wall. "Gweth…!" Legolas objected. He slapped one hand against his forehead. 'Did I ask her the wrong way?' he wondered. Without hesitation, he ran after her. "Gweth, but you said you loved me and…" She began to sob as she ran to her room. She did love Legolas. She really did. She still felt as if she was betraying Romilion and at the same time she felt as if she were betraying Legolas! It had been about a year since she had seen Romilion's spirit in the woods and she could hardly remember his words. Legolas finally caught up with her, just before she reached her door. He held her from entering her room. "Please listen. I thought so that you would say yes…" She began to break down there in the hall in sobs. Despite how confused he was about the situation, he held her in his arms. "It's not you," she whispered. He stepped away from her. "Is it someone else?" he asked. His blue eyes clouded over. It did seem like a possibility. After all, he had been away from her for a year. It was possible that she found someone knew, right? "NO!" she objected. "Legolas, I just feel…well, It's Romilion." "I know you miss him, but he's been gone so long and there is nothing you can do about it. You have to move on, but still keep him in your heart." She knew he was right. He was pretty sure she just wouldn't say yes yet, though he continued. "I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without you, Nengwethal," he said, approaching her again. "I want you to know that you're my life." He suddenly had an idea. She began to work away from him and into her room. He closed one hand in a fist and held it out to her. "Open my hand," he ordered. She gave him a mystified expression, but did as he asked. When she opened his hand there was nothing. "What is it?" "It's my breath you stole away from me," he whispered. She smiled and let him wrap his arms around her. "Please, remember that I'll always love you this way, no matter what." She thought for a moment. "Legolas, so will I. I will marry you if you still want me." Legolas laughed. "Are you joking? Of course I still want you. I'll always want you and if you never said yes, I'd still want you!" He picked her up and twirled her around, giving her deep kisses and they laughed together all through the night. <<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>>><<>> So, Legolas and Nengwethal fled to the Havens once the war and troubles were over and lived together till the ends of the earth!
