Feedback: poet_in_training03@yahoo.com Bring Me to Life By: Fury Date Started: July 10, 2003 How can you see into my eyes like open doors? Leading you down into my core Where I’ve become so numb... With out a soul My spirit’s sleeping somewhere cold Until you find it there in me Its back home... ~Allora sat alone in her room for what had seemed like days on end. The weather in Rivendell had taken a sudden turn for the gloomy, and it had not stopped raining in the Golden City since that fateful day her love left her. ‘You’re so stupid.’ She thought sordidly, ‘Why didn’t you tell him how you felt?’ she looked over at a folded piece of paper lying imprinted on her dresser... it had been placed there by him on the morning of his departure, the day she never got her chance to tell him good-bye. In this letter, which she had taken no heed of until it was almost too late, there was a simple message. “My smile hides secrets so deep Of images that will never be I may be gone Though in your heart (And in mine) I’m still near to you Nemarie, Legolas Greenleaf” And Allora began to cry. In that letter he had (perhaps inadvertently) confessed his love for her. ~ [Wake me up] Wake me up inside [I can’t wake up] Wake me up inside [Save me] Call my name and save me from the dark [Wake me up] Bid my blood to run [I can’t wake up] Before I come undone [Save me] Save me from the nothing I’ve become... ~Allora dashed out of her bedroom, letter tucked neatly into the folds of her gown, she snatched a cloak from the hallway, and fled blindly into the rain. For thousands of years, Allora had loved Legolas, crowned prince of Mirkwood, and the match was one for perfection. But Legolas seemed to have this death wish, or a warrant for his life. He had joined the Fellowship in representation of their people and had left with only a letter and a sad farewell. Allora darted through trees and leaped over shrubs and fallen logs. The branches scratched and clawed at her face, arms and legs but Allora was numb to the pain. She rather paid attention to the burning in her chest, a thousand year old yearning that would wait no longer to be satiated. Her Elvin ears honed in on any noises that could be mistaken for footsteps or voices. Soon she came upon laughter, and bolted outright toward it.~ Now that I know what I’m without You can’t just leave me Breathe into me and make me real Bring me To life ~Allora caught the Fellowship off guard, as the forests opened into grassy plains and knolls. Her breathy cry was heard by Legolas first, but all the Fellowship turned their heads in utter amazement. Legolas spun on his heals to stare at the rabidly approaching she-elf. He knew from the moment he heard her cry it was Allora. ‘What is she doing out here?’ he wondered to himself. Allora glanced at Gandalf who nodded knowingly and he and Aragorn fetched the Dwarf and the Hobbits and Boromir and headed onward, leaving Legolas and Allora alone. “Why didn’t you say good-bye?” –The first thing Allora could think to say. “I couldn’t...” Legolas began, “It has never been easy to say farewell to you.” He looked her over and then met her eyes rather uncertainly. “You got my letter?” Allora nodded and pulled it from within the folds of her gown. “What do you mean by this?” Legolas hesitated to explain. How could he tell her that for over a thousand years he had wanted to make her his own? He knew it was not meant to be... He was destined for this journey, and it could mean his death... He did not need something to live for... for that most often sealed certain doom. “It means only good-bye.” He said at last. Allora gasped softly, and let the paper fall from her grasp. He was denying a love that had obviously snaked itself into his words in that letter and now he would deny her? “You don’t understand at all Legolas!” she spat. “You’re not meant to die out here on these fields in battle. You are meant to be in Mirkwood... You are meant to be King. You’re meant to be with me!!” Allora could not hide her frustrated tears any longer and they fell freely down her cheeks. Legolas was taken aback by her impetuous words. Allora was not one for hasty and unplanned speech. “A... Amin mela lle...” Allora choked out amongst her tears. This was the first time Legolas had ever seen her cry. And, humiliated, she turned away from him and ran up over a hill, clutching her cloak to her suddenly aching body...~ [Wake me up] Wake me up inside [I can’t wake up] Wake me up inside [Save me] Call my name and save me from the dark [Wake me up] Bid my blood to run [I can’t wake up] Before I come undone [Save me] Save me from the nothing I’ve become... ~Legolas stared after her for a moment before coming to his senses and realizing just what she had confessed to him. ‘She said she loved me.’ He thought and began to run after her. “Allora wait.” He called and she stopped running, but didn’t turn around. Her shoulders were shaking visibly now.~ [Bring me to life] [I’ve been living a lie...There’s nothing inside] [Bring me to life] ~Allora heard him call her name and involuntarily stopped her flight. ‘He’ll turn me away.’ Her head screamed, but her heart vetoed that thought just as Legolas caught up with her. Legolas grasped her shoulder gently, trying to soothe away the quakes that wracked her delicate frame. He turned her toward him and lifted her chin so that she looked him in the eyes. “Tell me again.” He spoke. His voice intoning shock and gladness rolled together into one. Allora sniffed and looked at him candidly. She took a long deep breath and whispered through dry lips:~ “~I’m~ frozen inside without your touch Without your love, darling Only you are the life among the dead...” ~This confession and an even deeper one playing violently in her pale blue eyes (Eyes he had often struggled not to drown in) struck a place in his heart he had not known existed. Legolas closed his eyes momentarily and thought:~ ‘[All of this time, I can’t believe I couldn’t see Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me]’ ~Allora sensed his confusion and apprehension, but she needed to say these things that had spent far too long in her heart. Allora did not miss a beat when she continued:~ “I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems Got to open my eyes to everything...” ~Allora closed her eyes only to feel herself being entrapped by a warm embrace. She lifted her lids to see Legolas’ face bowed and his eyes closed in thought. Legolas pulled Allora tightly against him, reveling in the heat her body emitted. “I love you, too.” He whispered to her, letting his lips fall against her ear. He felt her shudder at the words, and a sob escaped her throat as she pulled away from him slightly to look at him.~ [Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul] [Don’t let me die here] (There must be something more) Bring me to life ~“It’s getting late.” She told him, huddling against him as the icy chill of foreboding swept across the valley. “I sense evil lurks here.’ Legolas pulled her impossibly closer to him and nodded. “Evil is every where, Allora. No place is safe from it at this time... but you are right, and it is unnaturally dark for this time of day.” Allora tilted her head up to look Legolas in the eyes, at that moment; there played such emotion that she could not resist the lure of his lips. She stood on her toes to brush her lips lightly against his. Legolas watched her motions with apprehension, but the moment they connected so intimately, he lost what little control he had left. As Allora pulled away, Legolas bent into her and captured her lips again as his own. Allora gasped slightly as the tip of his tongue beckoned entrance and she granted it permission readily, locking them in a passionate embrace.~ [Wake me up] Wake me up inside [I can’t wake up] Wake me up inside [Save me] Call my name and save me from the dark [Wake me up] Bid my blood to run [I can’t wake up] Before I come undone [Save me] Save me from the nothing I’ve become... ~A prairie wind swept across the plains and ruffled through their clothes and hair. Allora’s cloak broke free of its clasp and was carried away upon the breeze. Brightness filled the hearts of the two elves upon that hill, a light in the darkness that surrounded them. Eventually, that brightness overcame the darkness, and it fled to the outermost reaches of the forests. The rest of the Fellowship stopped and stared on their journey as the light of day was once again restored... no... Replaced by the light of pure love. Allora pulled reluctantly away from the lips she’d spend centuries dreaming and fantasizing about and smiled up at Legolas gingerly.~ “Bring me to life.” ~She said simply. Legolas smiled and nodded his head. Then he laughed at his own foolishness.~ “[I’ve been living a lie... there’s nothing inside...]” ~Allora shook her head at his words... “There is something inside you, Legolas... something great and powerful. It is love.” She finished with a whisper. Allora placed a chaste kiss upon his cheek and hugged him more tightly. Looking around, she noticed what their love had created, and she smiled. “Look... The world is bright again... If only for a small time.” It was then that Gandalf reappeared over the top of the knoll and smiled knowingly down upon the couple. “You see what true love can do?” His grin unbridled at Legolas. “You have brought peace to a time of such great uncertainty... And that makes me certain that we will conquer this foe.” Gandalf leaned on his staff as Aragorn and Boromir joined him on either side. The four hobbits and the dwarf joined them not long after. Legolas looked at Allora questioningly. “I do not wish that you come with us. It is dangerous out there...” He started, but Allora quickly cut him off with a kiss. “However unsafe it be, I will not leave your side now. When you stand and fight, I will stand with you.” Allora’s firm resolution cut any questions out of Legolas’ or any of the on-looker’s minds, and they all turned and continued on the journey that would change the fate of all Middle Earth.~ Bring me to life.... ~FIN~ Author’s Notes: I own nothing except Allora.
