Gilly Hopkins is a stubborn little girl that has moved from foster home to foster home never finding the right family. Gilly is the type of girl who always wants to be in control of everyone, she will steal or fight if she needs to. She is very smart but will not show her intelligenge unless challenged. One day she finds a home that seems the worst. Her mother in Chicago strangely has never came to get her, so Gilly mails her letters to her. She will do anything to get mother to come or to bring herself to her rightful gaurdian, including stealing, running away and lying to people. Soon everyone who gilly thought was good or bad is not.
