Ocean

·        What is ocean energy?

·        How is it created?

·        What are the pros and cons?

The ocean can produce energy from the tides and waves and from the sun’s heat.

Tides

Tides are caused by the pull of the moons gravity. We can build dams to force the water though turbines. The turbines make electricity. But there are few places in the world that have big enough tides.

Waves

Ocean waves are cause by the winds blowing across the ocean.  Ocean waves can be powerful. There energy can be to spin turbines to make electricity. Right now there are not any big energy plants.

Heat

The temperature of the ocean’s surface is lot warmer then the temperature of the deep water. This difference makes thermal energy. This energy can be converted to electricity. But the technology to do this is still being developed.
