Biomass is organic matter made from animals and plants. It comes in many forms like wood, crops and garbage.

 

Biomass is renewable energy source because we can grow more trees and crops, and there is always garbage. But each form has some bad sides.

 

 

Wood

 

Wood is the most common form of biomass. People burn it for heating and cooking. It is easy to use but it pollutes the air with smoke and ashes.

 

 

Waste

 

Waste can be burn in waste-to-energy plants. You can also collect methane gas from the rotting waste. Methane gas is used to make natural gas.

 

Crops

 

Ethanol and bio diesel are made from grains like corn and wheat. These are fuels for trucks and cars. If we use these then we use less gasoline but right now it is more expensive.
