X-guard to back (No Gi) Part 2
The amazing conclusion! :)
The primary difference - underhooking the leg again Different angle
My left arm IMMEDIATELY underhooks his left leg so that he cannot escape the position. Here is a close up of the same position. Pay close attention to my left knee, as it is going to do most of the work in the following sequence.
Bend his knee with your knee...
Controlling both ankles
My left knee slides behind his left knee and I extend my left leg at the hip, levering my opponent's knee forward. I keep tight control of his left shin with my left arm, and my right hand begins to look to capture his right ankle.
Using my left knee to lever him forward, and also swivel my body around completely behind him, I am now in position to sweep him forward. My right hand controls his right ankle (sorry you can't really see this, I am just using a regular thumbless grip), my left hand controls his left ankle/shin with an underhook.
Sweep him forward
Follow his momentum
I pull with my arms and extend with my legs to sweep him forward.  (I accidentally grabbed his pants in this pic.  Grabbing his ankles works just as well.)
...like this. I control his ankles and allow my momentum to carry me forward...
Drop your weight over one of his legs as your climb his back
Attack the back!
...and I pick a side to control. If he knows what he's doing, he is going to try to spin to face me, to avoid me taking his back. But I worked hard to get here, and I want to take his back, dammit! So I am going to pin one of his legs to the ground before he can spin. I slide one shin over the the back of his hamstring...
Take his back and look to sink your hooks, or whatever style of back attack you prefer.
