GEOGRAPHY
the Fief of Paris is divided into 20 Arrondissements and cities forming the subburbs of Paris, like Versailles where you can find the Palace of Louis the 14th, or Saint Denis were the great stadium for the 1998 Soccer World Cup is being constructed (in 1997).
You will find in here only pertinent information for the Paris of the World of Darkness. You will find elswhere in the Web more than enough information about almost anything. Try the http://www.paris-tourism.com/map/index.html for interactive maps, as well as description of the major features.

The Conciergerie:
This important vestige of the palace of the Capetians a good look of the civil architecture of the 14th Century, with the Salle des Gens d'Armes, Salle des Gardes and the Cuisines. Almost all the lower part of the palace was transformed into a prison in the 15th Century, where the jails can be visited (for example, the jail of Marie Antoinette), and discover memories about the 1789 Revolution.

The Louvre:
The Louvre Museum, ancient palace of the Kings of France, became since the two last centuries one of the greatest museums of the world. Its collection are divided in seven departments:
The Richelieu wing was finished in 1993. We can see there french sculptures, objects of art, paintings from the school of North and french paintings (up to the 17th Century), orientals antiquities and art of islam. In the same time was opened the Carrousel du Louvre, great subterranean construction where shops can be found, as well as parkings, exposition and demonstration rooms.
In october 1994, new rooms with foreign sculptures were opened. In the end of the last step of the project, a great number of rooms will be opened in the Sully and Denon wings. The Tuileries gardens will be renovated.

The Sainte Chapelle:
Jewel of the gothic architecture, the Sainte Chapelle was built in the 13th Century under the order of the king Saint Louis to protect the crown of Christ. The upper chapel, with its 600 square meters of glass (2/3 are authentics) offers one of the most complete ensembles of the art of stained-glass window of this time.

The Bibliothèque Nationale de France:
Palace Mazarin, old Royal Library, the National Library is one of the most complete in the world. The following divisions can be found there:
Galerie Mansart & Galerie Mazarine:
In luxuous rooms of the 17th Century, temporary expositions are presented in the Galerie Mazarine, old library of the Cardinal (Archibishop) Mazarin, famous for his paneled ceilings full with mythological paintings by Romanelli, and in the Galerie Mansart which protected the art collection of the Cardinal Mazarin.
These expositions built around a theme express the encyclopedic character of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and have access to the resources of different departments, completed with objects coming from national or foreign collections.

La Bourse:
The Brongniart Palace is more known as a financial place, as the Bourse of Paris. Still, it protects a galery consacred to the Bourse, its role in the economy. There is an audiovisual circuit, as well as a good viewpoint on the Bourse in activity. Architect: A. Brongniart (1808 - 1825).

Picasso Museum:
Artwork from Picasso were given to France after his death, as well as personnal collection of the artist. The Hôtel Salé was built from 1656 to 1659 for Pierre Aubert, Gabelle's Intendant, whose charge was to levy the tax over salt. Architect: Jean de Bourges.

�The Musée de la Serrure (Museum of the Lock):
History of the Lock from the Roman era to our days, presented in the Hôtel Libéral Bruand, personnal house of the Architect (1685).

Museum Boleslas Biegas:
Presentation of the life and the work of the artist, as well as paintings and sculptures of polish artists of the end of the 19th Century and the begining of the 20th Century (like Olga Boznanska, Tadeusz Malowski...). Good example of the links between France and Poland in Art.
Salon Chopin:
Salon dedicated to the memory of the artist, as well as his personnal objects.

Mairie de Paris:
City Hall of Paris, created by the Marchand de l'eau (Merchants of the Water guild). The first town hall was created in 1246 under the rule of Saint Louis. The actual city hall is built over the place of the ancient city hall, burnt by the Commune of 1871. The salons can be visited. Architects: Ballu, Deperthes.
