GONE WILD - GONE WILD (2007)
- GONE WILD was born out of the 3 parrticular sets of collaborations, Richard Anderson & Rob Smith having worked together with Nils-Ole Finbak, who Richard has been working with on several projects. It was decided to take their influences into a different genre than any of them had delved into in the past, staying true to their rock roots. When it was decided to take this project seriously Matt Sturgess was enlisted his bass, his sense of humour and his eagerness to get on with the job impressed.

Essentially an experiment at first this band have gone on to be quite a successful entity in their own right. Having garnered airplay all over the world, and fulfilling a lifelong ambition to have their music ranked alongside some of their heroes (as will be the case in March 2008 when their song is released on a compilation album in the USA).

Rob Smith (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards, Programming & Production), Richard Anderson (Vocals, Lyrics), Matt Sturgess (Bass), Nils-Ole Finbak (Keyboards, Piano, Guitars). Guest appearances were made by Carol Smith on harmonica, Chris Szkup on Guitars, and Robin Wellaway on Saxophone.

GONE WILD - GONE WILD II (2008)

Rob Smith, Hayley Oliver & Richard Anderson - Something To Remember (2008)
- The merging of country/pop and pop/rock soounds brings together the remarkable vocal talents of Hayley Oliver, with the musical genius of Rob Smith and lyrical efforts by Richard Anderson. All 3 people's artistic talents blend together to make this a truely excellent collection of songs. This album features a duet version of "Let's Get To The Heart Of The Matter, an online chart success, hitting the #1 spot a year after it was first released to the internet.

Rob Smith & Nils-Ole Finbak - Atmospheres (2008)
- The melding together of the lovely piano pplaying of Norwegian musician Nils-Ole Finbak with the vocal talents of Rob Smith (and some of his tasteful guitars here and there), brings this collection of songs together nicely in a style that young and old will truely enjoy. Initially put together as a side-project this CD has gone on to become a labour of love for all those involved in its creation. Richard Anderson has collaborated in the lyrical department on several of this albums tracks, proving once again that the magic of the Smith-Anderson songwriting team is able to cross musical boundaries.

Rob Smith - Never A Dull Moment (2008/2009)
- Rob has a plethora of songs he has writtenn over the years, so it comes as no surprise really that he has indeed been working on his 3rd solo album (the 3rd of many). This particular album has been in the planning stages for a long while, fans of his previous work will not be disappointed and he shall more than likely make new ones along the way.

Rob Smith - Picking Up The Pieces: The Rock Album (2008/2009)

- This particular album is one that is closee to the heart of Rob, for here he will feature songs from different stages of his writing career. Houston Wells fans will appreciate this album.

Carol Smith - Tranquility (2008/2009)
- Rob's wife Carol is not only a wonderful ssupport to her husband in his career, she has also held down the co-vocalists slot in their previous live band Crazy Paving for several years. Having worked together on several studio and demo projects it was decided that a Carol Smith solo album was something that the world needs, proof of her talents is that although a wonderful live performer her recorded voice comes through with a maturity and emotive sound that is thrilling to the ear.

Rob Smith - Co-Writes & Collaborations 1: Moments In Time (2009)
- Rob's written and recorded many songs withh many different artists over the years, so with encouragment it was mooted that why not put together a collection of songs with some of the many talents that Rob has worked with in his career. This CD will feature material written and recorded during different periods.

Rob Smith - In This Garden Of The Blues: The Blues Album (T.B.C)
- Co-writer Richard Anderson had sugggested another genre of music to which Rob's talents lay, blues-rock music. It was a style that Rob has tried his hand at over many years with great success, both as a recording artist and live performer. This project highlights that style.

A talented vocalist, Phil also plays acoustic guitar and can hold down a country tune with the best of them. Phil's eldest son Shay Smith is carrying on the family tradition of music and is learning to play guitar, so the future of the musical legacy is alive and well in his hands.

Blackmores Night

To the best of my knowledge you've never been to Ireland, which is strange as Blackmore's Night's music has a slight Celtic twist. I know you'd enjoy it here, so why haven't you done so ?

Nigel McAlinden, Co. Amagh

Ritchie Blackmore: "Actually, I did come to Ireland with Houston Wells and the Marksmen back in 1964. And I was also there for a month with The Outlaws. But we don't play Celtic music, basically it's Teutonic, very European. There's a big difference. I couldn't begin to tell you why I've not played Ireland for so long, there's a lot of places like that around the world."

"The Blue Of The Night", featured on lead guitar none other than Big Jim Sullivan who worked with Tom Jones. Houston rates this guy as one of the best guitarists he has ever worked with (right up there with Ritchie Blackmore and Pete Willsher), Houston says "He blew me away".

Jim actually gave Ritchie Blackmore the odd guitar lesson, he was also one of the early sessionmen in the UK during the 1950's and has amassed a huge catalogue of hit songs he has played on during his career. Jim continues to play and record to this day.

Otto Beesling:

Neil Reynolds:

Played Drums on "As I Leave Behind Nadine","Forty Shades Of Green", "I Wouldn't Cheat On You", "If The Whole World Stopped Loving", "Ireland", "The Girl From Yesterday" from "Then & Now: From Joe Meek To New Zealand"

Co-Produced the Joy Adams album "Two Minus One", as well as having played drums on her album "Just A Matter Of Time".

Former drummer with NZ rock favourites Dragon, and had also played with The Busker Band (who incidentally appeared on the bill at a gig with Ice featuring Houston's son Rob).

Neil also played with Mudsharx, The band got together with original members, Sid Limbert, and Dave Maybee, who'd played together in several lineups though the mid to late 70's, namely, Smokestack, Golden Slippers Band, and early incarnations of The Midge Marsden Band, to name a couple. Sid and his family returned to Raglan in 1980 from the U.S.A. to find Dave had moved to Raglan, after a bit of a chat they decided they should do a gig at the pub. So talking to John Humphries, the pub owner, it was decided an early week night might be good, as the locals, set in their ways, may not take to it right away. The first lineup was Dave, Colleen Ralph, (then Dave's partner) and Sid, there were acoustic guitars, mandolins, and a very makeshift sound system, complete with a yard broom duck taped to the floor, for a microphone stand. A few locals showed up, some of the older crowd, who called the "Settlers Lounge" home, and some of the new faces in town, people who had left the city and moved to the coast. The night went well enough to try it again, next time double the amount of people, and Clarry Cresswell, Saxophone legend from the 30's, 40's and 50's sat in and had a lick with the crew. So it went on, each gig maybe or maybe not, adding another guest, drawn from a long list of Mates from the past. Bill and Heather Amos from Kawhia, piano and fiddle, Paul Kunac, was the first Drummer, and with Drums, out came Amplifiers, and Electric Guitars, and Bass. Ray Chaber on Dobro, Mike Farrell, Guitar virtuoso, and about that time, Midge Marsden moved to town permanently. Midge added a new depth to the band, with his Rich Harmonica playing, vocals, and a great personality on stage. Sid had been touring in Midges band since the late 70's, and the touring band often stayed in Raglan to rehearse and take time out, so there were some great players, who just loved the chance to sit in and just have some real fun. Neil Reynolds, on drums, Liam Ryan, Keyboards, Ritchie Pickett, Piano, and other things, Pole O'Shea Hendrix Guitar, Ta Rutherford, Kev Thomas, Hammond Gamble, Sam Hunt, Dave McCartney moved to town, and often had Graham Brazier in tow. The list went on, and so did the fantastic gigs, every second Monday night, all through the 80's, One night The Mudsharx had a private gig, a 21st Birthday, and the drummer couldn't make it, so Sid's Son Freddy Limbert then 8 yrs old did his first pro gig with the Boys, and went on to do many more. The Mudsharx went on to become a legend around the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and even Auckland, the word was out "Mudshark Monday" at the Harbour View. They became a national identity when the one hour television Documentary "Raglan By The Sea" was played on T.V. Gary McCormick, himself an honorary Mudshark, presented a wonderful program which truly captured, not only each member in the band, but the very spirit of Raglan, at the time. The doco was such a success the Heartland series was born.

Neil also played with Stepping Out, a popular blues act led by father and son duo, Mike and Paul Garner. "Stepping Out To The Blues" is the title of their CD, featuring the exciting guitar playing of Paul Garner, the singing and original material of Mike Garner, the drumming of Neil Reynolds and the bass playing of ex-The Tribe/Blah Blah Blah/MX warheads/Kooriwadjula/McFly/Breed Minnamotu. Also appearing on "Stepping Out To The Blues" were Liam Ryan (ex-The Narcs) and Herbie Mason-Riseborough (ex-Velvet Bulldozer).

Neil also played with Torch Songs, the hip Bay of Plenty six-piece featuring ex-Narcs keyboardist Liam Ryan, singer Carol Storey, Trevor Braunius on guitar and drummer Neil Reynolds.

Dave Maybee:

Played Guitars on "As I Leave Behind Nadine","Forty Shades Of Green", "I Wouldn't Cheat On You", "If The Whole World Stopped Loving", "Ireland", "The Girl From Yesterday" from "Then & Now: From Joe Meek To New Zealand".

Producer of "You're My Best Friend", "As I Leave Behind Nadine", "Forty Shades Of Green", "I Wouldn't Cheat On You", "Ireland", "The Girl From Yesterday" from "Then & Now: From Joe Meek To New Zealand".

Dave plays bass and engineered "Some Kind Of Cowboy" by Barnacle, an mp3 is available from Here (3.60mb), he has also performed live with Sonny Day, Ritchie Pickett and the Inlaws, The Coalrangers, Joy Adams and many other artists

Played guitars on the Joy Adams album "Just A Matter Of Time" and on The Coalrangers album "The Harbour Light Sessions".

The Marksmen
The Outlaws

I met Houston Wells in 1963 in a guitar shop called Selmers, which was the biggest guitar shop in the WestEnd of London. I worked there in the advertising department and also was their guitar demonstrator. They sent me to Denmark, Holland and various places in England demonstrating Selmer amplifiers and Gibson guitars. Selmers was a meeting place for pop groups and session guitarists.

One of the groups which came in was Houston Wells and the Marksmen, and when Pete Willsher who was Houston's lead guitarist, had decided to leave. Houston heard me playing the Chet Atkins style in Selmers and he offered me a job. I then moved to Southend and lived there in order to be able to practise with the Marksmen. Then we went on tour all over England and Wales. We did some major concerts in proper big theatres appearing with Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, Billy J Kramer, the Swinging Bluegenes and others. Eventually Pete Willsher returned to the group and I went back working for Selmers.

I played with The Outlaws, but I don't know if it was before or after Ritchie Blackmore played with them. The two main members eventually became the famous Chas and Dave.
