Jesus Alou (3 for 5) knocked a 1st inning two-run homer that pushed the Giants on to victory. Pete Rose was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Willie Stargell was 3 for 4 for Boston. The New York bullpen contributed four scoreless innings to secure the win.

George Sisler had a big game for the New Yorkers out of the leadoff spot. He slapped 4 singles in 5 trips, swiped 3 bases and scored 3 runs. Tony Lazzeri was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Willie Stargell was 2 for 3 with a solo homerun. The Giants had 5 stolen bases in the game, but were also picked off twice and caught another time. Babe Ruth twice failed with the bases loaded and the tying run on second, including a fly out for the final out of the game.

Gabby Hartnett knocked in four runs with a 2 for 4 day. Curt Flood smacked two doubles and plated three Giants runners. Oscar Charleston was 3 for 4 for Boston. Dazzy Vance pitched well (8 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 8 SO, 2 ER), but Lefty Gomez was hit hard in the 9th out of the bullpen for the second straight game. Carl Mays went the distance for New York.
