The River Bats finish in first place! To me this was very unlikely for a couple of key factors: nodominate closer and no, I mean NO power in the line up, RBI leader had 84 for the season andaverage starting pitching. For some reason it all came together and I like to think it was greatcoaching but we know that is a farce. During the initial draft I took the Whitey Herzog approachof speed, defense, and pitching which to me is refreshing that it still wins games over the barrageof long balls that has changed the game of today. The River Bats are going into the playoffs still with the "underdog" mentality and cannot affordto expect an easy ride to the championship. Local pre-season projections for the River Bats calledfor a second division finish so the team played with no real pressure of living up to eary hype. The real question will be now that they are supposed to win, will they still be able to win?
