Newark, NJ (AP) - Manager Hank Bauer was disappointed in the results but happy with the effort of his team, "With Joe D. Larry Doby and Campy all out for the season the boys did the best they could.  We got all we could from the pitching staff especially Nolan, Nye and Culp who each made a good showing against the Hall of Famers."

Several late season moves gave the club a chance to compete and at least play spoiler down the stretch.  Randy Hundley was superb for the team and will be sorely missed.  Freddy Lindstrom held down 3rd after the revolving door of the first half of the season.  And Robin Yount did emergency duty at short.  It obviously affected his offense but management will definitely bring him back.

With eleven HOFers on the team choices will have to be made but insiders say that Jim Bunning seems to be the odd-man out.  "Allowing 22 HRS in just 75 IP just won't cut it in this league, " said pitching coach Ron Guidry.

There are also rumores swirling that Ruppert Stadium will be demolished and a new park built.  "We have a lot of decisions to make and transactions to explore, " owner Mike Rivet commented.  "For now we wish luck to all the playoff teams."
