The Newark Eagles nipped the Washington Senators in 13 innings 8 to 7 at
Ruppert Stadium in a hard fought contest.

The score was tied at 7 after nine.  Newark won it in the 13th inning.  Max
Carey delivered a base-hit.  Carey got a good lead and stole second.  Randy
Hundley then laced a single giving Newark the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd.  This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead
changed hands 5 times.

The victory was credited to Juan Pizarro(2-2) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Bob Humphreys(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.

With this win, Newark has a 71-78 record.  They have been 6-4 lately.  With
the loss, the Washington ballclub's record is 66-79.

Game 2:

The Newark Eagles defeated the Washington Senators by a score of 5 to 1 at
Ruppert Stadium.

Newark took the lead off Warren Spahn in the first inning scoring one
runner. Tommie Agee drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Spahn came up
and he unleashed a wild pitch.  Randy Hundley then doubled scoring the run. 
Overall Newark out-hit Washington 11 to 7.

Vic Willis(11-8) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing
1 run. Spahn(11-11) ended up with the loss.  He was unable to control the
Newark offense and allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.

Game 3: (Very Assume game!)

Ray Culp had a strong outing at Ruppert Stadium where the Newark Eagles beat
the Washington Senators in 13 innings 1 to 0.

Neither team scored in the first nine innings.  Newark ended up winning it
in the 13th inning.  Pete Ward delivered a one-base hit.  Freddy Lindstrom
stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Tony Oliva dug into the
batters box next, but he struck out.  Robin Yount was up next and he was
walked intentionally.  Jim Hart stepped into the box and slapped a base-hit
to load the bases.  Nellie Fox added to the outburst and slapped a single
making Newark victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Washington was out-hit by Newark, 9 hits to 6.

The winning pitcher was Lee Stange(8-6) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Jack Lamabe(6-4) suffered the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and 3
hits in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Game 4:

W - Nolan (11-11), L - Fingers (1-7)
HOME RUNS- T.Oliva(5th)

Gary Nolan was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and right fielder Tony Oliva lofted one into the 'cheap seats'
and had 3 RBI at Ruppert Stadium as the Newark Eagles staged a comeback win
over the Washington Senators by the count of 4 to 2.

Newark had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits.
Randy Hundley led off and he singled.  Norm Cash followed and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Freddy Lindstrom then lined a one-base hit.  Oliva was up
next and he belted a three-run homer (his 5th of the season) making Newark
the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  Newark had 9 hits for
the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Nolan(11-11) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. The loss was charged to Rollie Fingers(1-7) in relief.

Hank Bauer was in great spirits in his post-game interview.  Yet, when asked
about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered,
'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Gil Hodges, feels
right now - and it's not very good.  It's terrible when you come up on the
short end of one of these!'

And believe me, I've had my share!
