town crowd. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead

Culp had a strong outing at Ruppert Stadium where the Newark Eagles beat
the
Washington Senators in 13 innings 1 to 0.
Neither
team scored in the first nine innings. Newark ended up winning it
in the
13th inning. Pete Ward delivered a one-base hit. Freddy Lindstrom
stepped
up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Tony Oliva dug into the
batters
box next, but he struck out. Robin Yount was up next and he was
walked
intentionally. Jim Hart stepped into the box and slapped a base-hit
to
load the bases. Nellie Fox added to the outburst and slapped a single
making
Newark victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Washington
was out-hit by Newark, 9 hits to 6.
The
winning pitcher was Lee Stange(8-6) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.

Lamabe(6-4) suffered the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 3

Nolan was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete
game and right fielder Tony Oliva lofted one into the 'cheap seats'
and
had 3 RBI at Ruppert Stadium as the Newark Eagles staged a comeback win
over
the Washington Senators by the count of 4 to 2.
Newark
had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits.
Randy
Hundley led off and he singled. Norm Cash followed and he laid down a
sacrifice
bunt. Freddy Lindstrom then lined a one-base hit. Oliva was up
next
and he belted a three-run homer (his 5th of the season) making Newark
the
victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Newark had 9 hits for
the
afternoon.
The
victory was credited to Nolan(11-11) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs.
The loss was charged to Rollie Fingers(1-7) in relief.
Hank
Bauer was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked
about
his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered,
'I'll
tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Gil Hodges, feels
right
now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the
short
end of one of these!'
