Cleveland, OH (ESPN The Magazine): Reporters fled for their lives following Cleveland Spider's
Manager John McGraw's end of season news conference.  McGraw reportedly threw balls, bats, chairs,
and what ever else he could find at reporters who, according to McGraw "questioned every damn thing I
did."  The tirade began when a reported from the Plain Dealer asked McGraw about who he wanted to
see win in the play offs.  "What do I care?  It ain't us, so screw ‘em all.  Any other bright questions?"

Jayson Stark, of ESPN, asked McGraw about his own future with the franchise, at which point McGraw
lost his cool.  "Like I know!  You reporters are just vultures waitin' for someone to trip and fall, so you
can get a head line.  Big...>long expletive laden tirade deleted<...deal.  Get the ******* **** out of
here.  Go on!  Get!" McGraw emphasized his point by throwing a baseball at Stark, who promptly fled
the scene.

As other reporters, and team officials tried to intervene and calm McGraw down, he lashed out even
harder, clubbing Fred Hickman with a folding chair, then grabbing a bat and chasing after Boston beat
writer Dan Shaughnessey of the Globe.  Spider's catcher Carlton Fisk, being interviewed for AM 1100
WTAM, finally got hold of McGraw and removed him from the room.  No serious injuries were reported
following the incident.  Team officials declined to comment.
