Boston erupted for five runs in the 8th inning to offset a monster game by Harry Heilmann of the Perfectos. Heilmann had 11 total bases (4 for 4, double, two homeruns) in producing three runs and three RBIs. The Americans rally came with three straight pinch-hits and was capped by Ed Delahantys two-run homer.

St. Louis plated four runs in the first inning and then piled it on the Americans. Tris Speaker homered and walked three times for the Perfectos. Jimmy Collins was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Boston hit four homers over the last two innings, but their deficit was much too large to overcome.

starters, Candy Cummings of Mountaintop and Bill Hands of Boston, fared well,
keeping the game knotted at one through eight and a half. The Wallbangers took a 3-1 lead on a double
by Hughie Jennings (3 for 3, two doubles, two runs). Boston struck back for three in the 9th with a two-run
single by Gabby Hartnett.

runs in the second after an error by Mike Schmidt. Schmidt later chipped in 2 RBIs for the Wallbangers. Boston had nine hits, five of them for extra

in dramatic fashion. Boston scored all of its runs on homers: a two-run dinger
by Babe Ruth and a solo job by Paul Casanova.
