2001-02 WLOC ALCS Recap
Game One:
Rochester wins 9 - 7 behind a complete game by Tim Keefe while
Missouri
ace is battered around. Billy Williams and E. Averill go deep and
have
3 RBI's each.
Game Two:
Missouri rebounds with a 5 - 3 win with solid pitching from Mike
McCormick, Tony Pierce and Orlando Pena. No Homers are batting
heroes.
Missouri bunch their hits together for a four run fourth. Each team
had
11 hits.
Game Three:
Steve Carlton was impressive as he combined with Orlando Pena for a
15
- 0 blowout of the Live Oaks allowing only six hits. Ty Cobb 5 for
6 -
4 RBI's, Jackie Robinson 3 for 4, Dan Brouthers 3 for 5 and four
others
with two hits each.
Game Four:
River Bats take a commanding 3 - 1 lead when Jim Merrit along with
T.
Pierce and O. Pena combine for a five hit shut out in a 3 - 0 win.
Back
to back shutouts for the River Bats. Ty Cobb goes 3 for 4 as does
Bill
Terry of the Live Oaks.
Game Five:
River Bats were looking to close the series up but they did not
tell
the Live Oaks who fought back with a 7 - 5 win. Mike McCormick is
battered for 10 hits and five runs in five innings. Al Simmons take
the
Oaks on his back going 3 for 4 with 2 HR's and three RBI's. Ty Cobb
stays on his torrid pace going 4 for 5.
Game Six:
The Live Oaks even up the series by winning a thriller and holding
off
the River Bats rally in the bottom of the 9th and winning 5 - 4. C.
Hubbell gets the win and Carlton gets the loss. Simmons still
carrying
the Oaks goes 3 for 4 with another HR and 2 RBI. Both teams aces
are
set for the final.
Game Seven:
The River Bats score two in the 2nd and behind Jim Merritt that was
all
they needed as Merritt pitches a complete game 4 hit shutout
continuing
where he left off in game 4. This was the third shut out for the
River
Bats in the Series.
River Bats hit .332 for the series with Ty Cobb and Sam Thompson
each
hitting .414 with 8 and 4 RBI respectively. Jackie Robison and Pete
Hill hit .370 while Honus Wagner hit .323.
