Once again, 10,000-40,000 citizens gathered in Ann Arbor for speeches, bands, and political networking. The net IS working. News radio set the official "bust" counter at 4, WAY down from the 26-60 in the past. The day stated a bit chily, but ended up sunshiney and absolutly wonderful.

Not much pot smoking, but plenty of support on campus, either hippies have just gotten smarter, or we have learned to turn our power to care into a force. One guy asked me "Where is all the pot?", This lady knew!! Seriously, the fake pot plant she is holding, and that George Washington waved around on stage, is available to help fund the Michigan Marijuana Marches. Derrik Crane, of Rainbow Farms always stirs up the crowd! The senseless murders of Tom and Rollie over a GOD given herb is just a tragedy, and we should not forget what is being done to good people in the name of the war on marijuana.

Doug Linebach, also of Rainbowfarms helped organize a ralley outside the Ann Arbor Federal building just before the Bash. Id say at least 300 people went to that hourlong protest, and then marched to Hash Bash and joined the awaiting crowd. Hash Bash isn't about smoking pot anymore. It is about standing up for rights, and smoking marijuana is a cival rights issue.

Dan Soleno, of Police Officers for Drug Law reform, alluded to the FACT that police do not really want to be bothered with arresting pot smokers, and are banding together to oppose drug laws in general. Drugs are a medical, and not a criminal problem.

Well, folks it about to be that time of year again. The HASH BASH will be Saturday, April 6th at HIGH noon on the Diag of the University of Michigan. You have received this e-mail because we thought you might be interested. If you would like to be removed from our e-mail list please let us know and you will be removed.

With the tragedy that occurred at Rainbow Farm as fuel for our fire, this years HASH BASH will be the best party ever. In memory of Tom and Rollie we have asked The Toyes to entertain us with a concert during our one hour of power on the Diag. We will start the day at 11am with a candle light vigil like gathering at the Federal Building on Liberty at Division. We will gather there to protest the FBI involvement in the killings at Rainbow Farm.

We will the gather at NOON on the Diag for the HASH BASH. Please bring signs and banners.

Now for the hard part. We need to raise between $5000-$7000 for this years event. This money needs to be raised before the event. It will cover things like airfares for THE TOYES (they have agreed to play for free), hotel and expenses for the band and speakers, band equipment and PA system, also permit fees for the Diag. If there is anyone out there that has the means to help we are asking for any and all help in getting the funds. Of course if you can help lower our costs by donating you services we want to hear from you also.

We are willing to accept donations or loans, let us know how you can help. If you can't help BUT know someone who can PLEASE pass this along to them. There are corporate sponsorships available if you are or know of a company that would like some great exposure. I can get into details if you would like just send me a note and I'll explain.

If you or your organization would like to set up an information table on the Diag let us know and we will tell you the details.

The MMM has asked us to announce that at 4:20 on the day of HASH BASH they will be gathering in Wheeler Park. Wheeler Park is a nice little park on the corner of Depot and N. 4th Ave.

My favorite part, pesonally, was working with the giant doobie guy first thing in the mourning. "Does anyone think he looks like a KKK guy?" I heard someone say. "Yeah, I'm getting alot of that" He replied to my inquiry. Don't worry, he painted the top of his hat red, and put some red plastic on top, to simulate flame. He was nice, if not a little tipsy.

I was pulled over on the way in, cracked windsheild. Almost went in a six foot parking garage with an eight foot van, I was thankful. I am glad we are getting our stuff together in Michigan, and it all started with Hash Bash. I wonder what suprises are in store for '02. --Rev. Happy

The N.S.P.R.A. will be at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor (one block from Campus) from 8AM to 6 PM and will feature evening entertainment after the full day of informative speakers. April 7th is the 30th Annual Hash Bash on the U of M Campus-many volunteers are needed to help organize the petition kickoff effort and journalists (and journalism students) are invited to request their press credentials soon. Registrations and a full list of speakers will be made available January 25, 2001. Symposium participants should get their hotel reservations for Thursday April 5 through Saturday April 7, 2001 right away. The symposium will be reasonably priced to cover costs, and I strongly urge everyone who is serious about this issue to attend. A strong beginning is the key to working smart, and you will leave this symposium with a good foundation of knowledge and petition training which you can, in turn, use to instruct other petitioners.

Thanks to all of you who attended and helped Liz and the Libertarians with the very professional and organized presence that PRA2000 had at the Hash Bash the following things happened:

It was a breezy but fine day for the Hash Bash again. To get the useless statistics out of the way first, I'd say 6000-8000 people gathered together to support legalization. The focus was definatly on the PRA, with excellent minds and resources trying to mix together under a common goal. Not one speaker forgot to mention it. From Presidential Candidate to college Professor, from editor to chef, all agreed on one thing, the PRA is a democratic step toward freedom and happiness. Many people took home info on how to circulate petitions, I bet we gained a thousand volunteers. Especially with the proposition of paid signature gatherers...

Whichever great mind came up with the sit in, it worked fine on this day. When the crowd spread out and sat down, the police became obvious, literally standing out. They huddled then eventually waded their way to the edges. When everyone stood up and crammed into the stage, I started thinking "Light em up" and Adam Brooke said "I'm not saying obstruct officers, but of course the'll be slowed." as the crowd packed in shoulder to shoulder. The day suddenly smelled much better.

The reasons to leaglize are too many to fit on this page, but it is the truth that the cannabis plant, both industrial hemp and medical marijuanna, has been common and well used for thousands of years, improving the whole planet. It figures that when it was made illegal it destroyed a vital part of humanity.

Mans first cultivated plant, the root of all religions and the most common medicine worldwide, made illegal to feed a prison-like state, worse then any addiction. We have taken steps toward freedom.

This was my first Hash Bash. I guess I expected more. I didn't realize that when the hour of "amplified power" was cut off...the time of sharing the truth of the revolution was over also...were they only allowed to speak for an hour also? I'm confused...why did everything stop? I was VERY suprised to not find any acoustic musicians playing pro-marijuana songs. It was the perfect opportunity at the diag...and at the park afterwards around 4-ish there were Hari Krishna's singing and dancing...sharing the word.....But no one planing music and sharing the word on the truth about marijuana. ..did I miss this perhaps? Were their singers somewhere and perhaps I missed them because of working me station at the petitions? I was not involved in organizing this...but I will ask "the powers that be" about these questions... Maybe next year there can be acoustic musicians constantly in a few areas. Any opportunity to sing and share...should be taken...I'm always telling my son (he's a writer)....a lot of people don't take the time to read...you can reach more people through music than any other way...In the 60's...that was how we reached people. Ever heard "Alice's Restaraunt"? On the album, Arlo Guthrie says,"Hey man...if you want to win wars and stuff...you gotta sing REAL LOUD!".............

The usual coalition of stoners, bikers, students and the just plain curious gathered on the University of Michigan's Diag Saturday, giving new meaning to the term "melting pot."

The College Libertarians, PRA 2000, and the Ann
Arborites for Medical Rights, hosted the first annual Hash Bash
teach-in to educate the student community on the benefits of eliminating some or all of the legal restrictions on the personal usage of marijuana. This panel discussion was held in Angell Hall auditorium A from 6pm-9pm and mutch thanks to these speakers:

Jack Herer, author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes
Steve Gaskin, Green Party Presidential Candidate
Elvy Musikka, medical marijuana recipient
Adam Brooke, Hash Bash organizer, 1994's Freedom Fighter of the Year and grow specialist
Marvin Marvin of the Party Party (long time marijuana activist)

Furthermore, PRA2000 petitions in favor of legalizing marijuana in the state of Michigan and a petition legalizing medical marijuana in the city of Ann Arbor were available to sign. The Millenium Marijaunna March was also talked about.

Hash Bash went off again, it was a smash. The party was going well before we arrived, just in time for the first speaker. Except for slight PA problems, we heard inspirational incense waft through the air. This year had a firmer foundation, as though the victories were telling the real stories up on those steps

It was bright and warm, and some of my fairer friends got a little red, The crowd was full of smiles and peolple were not afraid to be by the twin cops stationed in the crowd. One guy fell ill during the rally, and when he went down, particapants and cops both carried him from the crowd. There were moans of "Ah, c'mon, let him go" because we assumed it was an arrest. We were all there because we cared.

The mood of the speaches was mostly political, with Million Marijuanna March overtones, then medical, then commercial, as in High Times and Urine Luck! When Tommy Chong came on stage, it flared up the crowd. I think he was the second reason we came. What he said, in his monologue, was the first. He quipped off religion and pot, I was stunned and amused. It was right, but he was 1% wrong. GOD worked SIX days and nights, not seven, before he sat down with a glass of wine and a doobie and said "It is good"

The crowd staid later then us, the diag was still full at 4:30 when we left. The time whizzed by as we ate pizza on the lawn and enjoyed the rythem of the drum circle. Every once awile we'd feel the waft of incese in the air, hear the laughter, and see our friends from days or years before. As usual, we came home with a stack of fliers I hope to photocopy and distribute. All in all, we had a great time, learned, laughed, and listened to the dawn of rationality.
