Eons ago, Primus created a race of robots destined to fight his eternal nemesis: Unicron. Giving them the power of creation, the early Transformers could pro-create through "budding", where a Transformer could perform a procedure similar to cell division and give birth to a new Transformer. As time passed, the succeeding generations of Transformers began to reproduce rapidly, and in the process lose all sense of morality. When this happened, a majority of the Transformer race lost this ability to reproduce.
However, the reproducing had left something - The Swarm. A bi-product of the Transformer race, this force spread through the galaxy, with little purpose but to devour all in its path. Then, through a series of incredible circumstances, The Swarm would come to encounter the Autobot leader Optimus Prime, who allowed himself to be devoured by the Swarm. Through that action, it came into contact with the very force which it came from - The Matrix. Touched by the light of the Matrix, The Swarm became an instrument of creation instead of destruction.
The Swarm felt a collective guild because of the destruction it had caused. This prompted the Swarm to grow and become "The Vok", a collective of races including Transformers, humans and a mysterious lizard race inhabiting a far off point in space called "Nexus Zero".
Among the experiments the Vok began was implanting their technology and the powerful energy source Energon on the young planet Earth. Their experiment went well until a small group of Maximals and Predacons crash landed on the world. The Vok felt their experiment was compromised when many of the conflicts between the Maximals and Predacons caused, which often resulted in the destruction of the constructs they had placed on Earth.
To stem the damage, the Vok tried to destroy the Transformers, warning of a great danger in the future. Time after time however, the Vok did not succeed. When the Vok felt Megatron was threatening the very time fabric of space, they sent their emissary, Tigerhawk to end the Beast Wars once and for all. The Predacon Tarantulas extracted the Vok influence from Tigerhawk however, freeing the Transformer to join the Maximals.
