Tarantulas was one of the original members of Megatron's crew who stole the Golden Disk from the Maximals. Tarantulas is a powerful enemy both in body and in mind. He is often considered one of the creepiest of all Predacons. He likes to chuckle to himself often without saying anything else, making others nervous as he formulates his plans inside his insane head. In battle, he laughs like a maniac as he relishes a physical battle as well as mental ones. Tarantulas is skilled in melee combat, stealth and possesses an odd sixth sense rarely seen in Transformers.
Tarantulas was responsible for choosing Blackarachnia's beast mode and initially developed a strong interest in her, seeing that her intelligence and strength rivalled his own. The two conspired with each other to the point where Tarantulas took over Blackarachnia's mind for a brief period through a "psychic link".

In the aftermath of a quantum surge, Tarantulas' body was changed into the form of a Transmetal. Now possessing three modes: Motorcycle, Robot and Mechanical Beast, Tarantulas became more dangerous than he was before! His new abilities included cluster bomb launchers and a new hand held blaster.
For a brief time after his metamorphasis, he maintained control over Blackarachnia via a psychic link. Soon enough however she broke from his control and eventually his disdain of the other Predacons led him to go off on his own, leaving Megatron's command.
When the Predacon operative Ravage appeared in the midst of the Beast Wars, it was discovered Tarantulas was in fact Lieutenant Tarantulas of the Predacon secret police. Despite this knowledge, Megatron accepted Tarantulas back into the Predacon ranks once Ravage was destroyed and the Beast Wars raged on.
Tarantulas was eventually destroyed when he tried to take over the form of Tigerhawk from Vok control. However, in this attempt to take over the body of Tigerhawk, he managed to extract the Vok influence in the Transformer, allowing the merged sparks of Tigatron and Airazor to become one with the body.
