Air Commander Starscream served as second in command to the original Megatron long before the Maximals and Predacons even existed. He was one of the Decepticons who, along with Megatron were put into emergency stasis in the Autobot ship Ark when it crashed into Earth.
After being restored to consciousness by the Ark, the Autobots and Decepticons continued their war on Earth. During a battle at Autobot City in the year 2005, Decepticon leader Megatron was severely damaged. After their retreat, Starscream saw fit to dispose of Megatron to take his place as leader.
However, when Megatron was reformed into Galvatron by the powerful Unicron, he returned to Cybertron to destroy Starscream. Starscream's body was destroyed, but his Spark survived, roaming time and space with nothing but vengeance in mind.

Starscream's Spark once visited ancient Earth. Although he was not aware that it was ancient Earth he was on, Starscream still kept his goals in mind. He possessed the body of Predacon Waspinator and proceeded to wreak havoc in the Predacon and Maximal ranks.
It was during this time that Starscream took on Blackarachnia as a protegee and practically brought the Maximals to their knees. But in the end he betrayed Blackarachnia and was outwitted by Optimus Primal.
Waspinator's body was caught in an energon explosion during a battle with Optimus Primal and Blackarachnia, freeing Starscream's Spark. Waspinator later recovered and continues to serve Megatron as Starscream's Spark floats endlessly once again.
