Rattrap was one of the original members of the Axalon crew that crashed on Earth with Optimus Primal, Rhinox and Cheetor. He was reluctant to engage in the Beast Wars at first, but once engaged he proved himself to be a very efficient spy, infiltrator, thief and warrior. Rattrap is a smart alec, constantly trading insults, quips and sarcasm with his fellow Maximals (and sometimes the Predacons). Rattrap is generally considered second in command by Optimus Primal and has taken on that role during the Beast Wars. Rattrap is great friends with fellow Axalon crew member Rhinox and maintained an adversarial, yet friendly (and hilarious) relationship with the Predacon turned Maximal, Dinobot.
Rattrap's combat skills seemed to have been gained long before the Beast Wars occurred and he is very confident in those skills (Episode - A Better Mousetrap shows him off wonderfully). Among his repertoire of combat skills are stealth, marksmanship, acute hearing, a "sixth sense" and demolitions. All of these skills were invaluable in helping to win key battles against the Predacons in the Beast Wars.
Rattrap briefly defected to the Predacons in order to penetrate their ranks and recover a Maximal decoder chip. The defection was a ruse, but he managed to take out a few Predacons single handedly during that particular mission.
Transmetal Form
Weapons: Hand held fusion rifle, Rear mounted shields, Tail whip
Beast Mode: Red, bronze and silver rat
Vehicle Mode: Rat shaped hot rod vehicle
When a powerful quantum surge hit Earth, Rattrap (along with Cheetor) was changed into a Transmetal form. This new form gave him an altered structure capable of three forms: beast mode, robot mode and a new vehicle mode.
It was in this new body that Rattrap became instrumental in the thwarting of many Predacon plans including stopping the Decepticon Ravage from destroying the Maximals. Since gaining this form, Rattrap has continued being a smart mouth (we wouldn't have him any other way) and continues to be an asset to the Maximals.
