Alex spends much of his time at the memorial to the late Dragonmaster Dyne, his hero. Alex has looked up to Dyne all his life and views him as a great hero. He dreams of going on fantastic adventures just like Dyne. In order to do that he has to give up all that he holds dear to him, including his family, his village, and his sweetheart, Luna. Alex is about to get his wish, although how much he's going to like it is yet to be seen.
