| An accomplished artist, sculptor and historian, "Doc" Settles was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He is a retired 22-year Air Force veteran, having resided in such places as Alaska, California, Wyoming, Saudi Arabia, and Great Britain. He lived the last 4 years in Italy, and now resides in Wichita, Kansas. Doc is a self-taught artist, and began painting at the age of 11. His favorite artists and inspirationalists are Michaelangelo, Salvador Dali, and Claude Monet. Doc enjoys working in various mediums, to include pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolors and oils. Several of his works have been published and are available in Limited Edition Series. His work can be seen on display at the Pentagon and in several select galleries throughout the United States. An avid historian, Doc has researched, authored and been featured in articles in USA Today, the Dallas Morning News, the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, the Baltimore News, and History America tours. |
| As founder, artist and sculptor of the Wyoming Buffalo Soldiers Monument, Doc's efforts have been acknowledged by former Secretary of Defense, William J. Perry; former Secretary of the Army, Toga West; U.S. Senator Craig Thomas; the National Buffalo Soldier's Association; and the Tuskegee Airman's Association. Doc published a series of 10 Buffalo Soldier prints and donates 100% of the profits to the Wyoming Buffalo Soldier Monument Project.
