"Lefkas International Speech & Arts Festival"
together with
the "Lefkas International Folklore Festival"
and "Lefkas International Percussion Festival"
are established cultural institutions of the Municipality of Lefkas.
All three insitutions have international radiance and were first organized in 1955, 1962 and 2000 respectively.
Since then, during their course and operation, the Festival have attached the most famous and distiguished Greek and foreign composers, artists and scientists, big orchestras and choirs from abroad, dance groups, prominent theatre companies and many more having as a highlight the great appearance (August 1964) of the famous opera singer Maria Callas who was accompanied by the eighteen year old, then pianist Kyriakos Sfetsas, now Art Director of our Cultural Center.
From 1999 the program of "Speech & Arts Festival" has planned, organized and attended by the well-known Greek composer Kyriakos Sfetsas, who is working in upgrading it substantially by extending his duration initially to three months (June-July-August) and by improving at the utmost the content through a polysemous reference to most forms of art and human expression. Widely spread publications of Athenian Press, huge promotion from the media as well as the relevant publications of regional press compose a valid proof and award for our efforts.
