Parties, Fun Frenzy Olympics, etc!
Hi hi!!
How are you this week? My weeks are getting fuller every time! Last friday we went up Table Mountain. It was beautiful! First we saw the city in daylight, then when the sun was setting and finaly in the dark. It was fantastic! After Table Mountain I went to a house party at a friend's house. I didn't really know what to expect but it was actually really nice. Some crazy people jumped in the pool with a fur coat or they ran around chasing the dog, so we had lots of fun! Saturday we went to the Canal Walk. This is a very big shopping centre, 7 km long! It is a very nice place to shop, of course :P, so we spent almost the whole day there! Sunday we had a very special day! We started with the Fun Frenzy Olympics. This is a day for underpriviliged kids. About hondred children came to Bishops, a boy school, to do games and sports. We all got a kid to look after for the day, and we also participated in the games. Most of the games were really nice, otheres were, well er.. we had to go through flower with our head to find a sour worm, so at the end everything was white and covered with flower! But we had fun! Playing with the kids was very nice! After the Fun Frenzy Olympics were finished we had to hurry to Kirstenbosch, where we would see Flat Stanley, a band. It was a concert, though it was very different from the concerts in Holland. We sat on the grass, right in front of the stage. It was a bit like "koninginnedag" (celebration of the queen's birthday) in Amsterdam, with all the concerts there on the Museumplein. The music was also really nice, you could relax and listen at the same time! Monday evening we had a house braai. Everyone at Herschel is devided into one of the three houses: Merriman, Rolt en Jagger. I am in Rolt, together with my exchange student, Tarryn. The house braai is nothing else but coming together, dressing up weird (we had to wear yellow!) and have fun. It rained though, that was a pity. Tuesday evening we had the interhouse swimming gala. All the houses swam against eachother. I also swam in the under 19 free medley I think, and we won!! All because of me of course! :P Wednesday the first of March was a public holiday because the municipal elections were held. This meant that we could party on tuesday night and we did! It was very nice, met some weird people but had lots of fun! It was quite special because almost the whole night we had no electricity, again, so we sat there with candle lights, someone playing the guitar.. Very nice! Wednesday we spent almost the whole day painting t-shirts, shorts and hats for cricket on friday. It was South Africa versus Australia. Our outfits were so funny with South African flags and the text "WE DON'T LIKE CRICKET, WE LOVE IT!" that the camaras were constant at us and so we were on tv most of the time! But we had fun, it was so nice! We spend about the whole day sitting and waiting for the match to start! We went to Cavendish, the shopping centre, at nine o'clock to have breakfast and buy some food for the rest of the day. At half past ten we went to the cricket stadium and waited in front of the gates until twelve, when the gates finally opened. We ran to the grass, the nicest place to watch the cricket, and waited there until half past two, when the match started. It went on until half past nine. South Africa won, so after that we went celebrating! Our whole day dedicated to South Africa and cricket! Saturday was our relax day. We planned to go to Ratanga Junction, an amusement park, but we were way too tired so we decided not to. ![]() I'm now going into my last week, saying goodbye to everyone and everything. I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE! But on the other hand, it's nice to go back, see my family and friends again. I'm going to miss everyone, everything and the sun! Bye!        Love, Leo (Sorry for the late and long update this week!!) |
