THE GERMAN SOCIETY OF PENNSYLVANIA, mentioned as a reference for helping to trace one's genealogy in Charles Dickson's article, "Tracing Your Ethnic Roots" (Correspondent, Spring 1989), has been inundated with requests from interested Lutherans eager to trace their roots. Society librarian Renate M. Merrick has asked us to publish the following explanation...and plea: "The Library here at the German Society of Pennsylvania [does not have] biographical information about individual immigrants or families... The only information we have are the Strassburger/Hinke lists pennsylva- nia German Pioneers Shiplists from the 1700s up to 1808 and the Daniel Rupp lists Immigrants in Pennsylva- nia 1727 to 1776. "If one believes their ancestors arrived in Philadelphia or Pennsylva- nia during these years, a letter with the ancestor's full name and approximate arrival date can be mailed to our library and copies of the shiplist requested. There is a $5 charge per name searched to cover, " -time, copies, printage, costs-. "I generally refer family research- (er, ers) to the following organizations: 1. Historical Society of Pennsylvania, 1300 Locust St., Philadelphia, PA 19107. 2. Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, 1300 Locust St., Philadelphia, PA 19107. 3.
