Compositions 1997-1998

The basic goal of this particular period of my composing "career" was to write music that is pleasing to my ears and enjoyable to myself.  I was exposed to Baroque music and was trying to show my response to my brief understanding to such music by composing. These music aren't as mature as I wish they would and should have been because most of them are just experimental, and I finish these songs in the matter of days without editing. This is the most immature stage of my composing life.  Some, if not all, of these pieces might have a "Baroque sound" to it.

Picture:  This was my 11th grade school ID picture, I was about 16 back then.  It was this happy guy who wrote all these music below.

Background music is my Suite for String Orchestra in G minor's Sixth movement, Presto.

Suite for String Orchestra in D Major  (Summer 1997)

The first piece of music that I have ever written, without any formal education what so ever.  If you're interested in my "early music", I would recommend checking out this work.

Special Features:      The first composition that I've ever written.  The first movement was actually performed for my high school's solo and ensemble in 1998.

  First movement, Allegro (35K) **

   Second movement, Andante (6K)

   Third movement, Dance (17K) *

   Fourth movement, Adagio-Allegretto (10K)

   Fifth movement, Presto (17K)

Suite for String Orchestra in G minor  (Fall 1997)

The second piece of music of mine. This piece consisted of movements that are fast moving and somewhat dark. Not many people have heard of this, but a lot of friends of mine usually would recognize and enjoy the fast and dark sixth movement of this suite, and some have found the second and third movements enjoyable.

Special Features:     The second composition that I've ever completed.  The sixth movement of this work had won a few online composition competitions.

   First movement, Andante (4k)

   Second movement, Allegro (28k) *

   Third movement, Allegretto (17k) *

   Fourth movement, Andante (5k)

   Fifth movement, Dance (15k)

   Sixth movement, Presto (24k) **

Quintet for Recorder and Strings   (Fall 1997)

Another beginner's work, filled with harmony and unfortunate dissonance. It was an attempt to be bittersweet and some parts of it feels like spring. A few friends of mine really enjoy the fast pace of the second movement, and this used to be one of my all time favorites before I changed my taste about my music.

   First movement, Moderato (7k) *

   Second movement, Presto (14k) *

   Third movement, Andante (4k)

Fourth movement, Allegro con moto (10k)

Concerto for Viola and Orchestra   (Spring - Summer 1998)

It was never finished. The moment when I wanted to write a relatively large work was when I open up the program and experimenting with the timpani. I wouldn't say that this was a good piece that I wrote but it did have some nice moments in it.

   First movement, Allegretto (50k)

   Second movement, Allegro molto  (15k)

Third movement, Moderato - Unfinished  (35k)

Random Pieces of This Period

Random pieces written for the moment at the moment.  Enjoy.

   Happy Song minor version (25k)
