The descriptions of these events in the book are partly accurate and they are pretty good because the author wasn�t there during the war. They used mask because they were scared of Mustard gas attacks on them. Mustard gas was used during the war, was a lethal weapon that killed many people during World War I. During the war teachers and schoolmaster taught the children that being in the war the way to show your country that you love that country, in Germany men should have joined the war effort by the time they are 18 years old.
