Part 4
Chapter 1
"Stars are Falling."
"Ok, Taliko can you show us which one of these is the color yellow?" A little girl in a light pink jumper stud up and walked over to a row of blocks. Each block was a different color and number.
"This one Mrs. B." The little girl held up the yellow block and handed it to her.
"Vary good Taliko! Would you like to learn a song about the color yellow?" She looked around the floor with kids sitting Indian style. They all nodded and leaned foreword eagerly.
"Ok repeat after me." She smiled causing them to smile back.
"Yellow is a duck, its feet and its bill." She began slowly and listened to them repeat it.
"Yellow is a crocus or a daffodil...." She continued and smiled as they repeated it perfectly.
"Yellow is the middle of the day, the sound of children when they play." They repeated the last lines one more time to make sure they remembered, and all laughed at the irony of it.
"Ok now let me hear you all sing it together, and remember to go faster this time." She beamed at the children.
"Yellow is a duck, its feet and its bill. Yellow is a crocus or a daffodil. Yellow is the middle of the day, the sound of children when they play!." They smiled as they finished, feeling vary pleased with themselves.
"Vary good!" She clapped with a laugh. "Now Jin please show us which of these are red." A young boy walked up and handed her the red block. "That's great Jin, would you like to help me teach the others the song for red?" He nodded vigorously.
"Yes I would Mrs. B." He glowed with her praise.
"Ok, now listen carefully." She bent down and whispered the song into his ear. He smiled and turned to the other children.
"Red is the strip on peppermint candy, a rosy red on a beach that's sandy. Red is the feeling of being brave, a hurt from a spank if you don't behave!." The other children repeated it and laughed.
"Excellent Children! You learn so quickly." She praised them and got up. She went to her desk and motioned the children to go to their own desks. Leela picked up a stack of papers and went around handing them out.
"I want you to color these paper crayons the two colors we learned today. On this other sheet I want you to draw two things; your favorite yellow thing and your favorite red thing. It doesn't have to be something everyone knows about, just something you like." Soon all the children were busy coloring and drawing. Leela went to her desk and started looking at their learning progress sheets. When the clock stuck 12:00 p.m. she got up again.
"Time to clean up children. Hayaku now." She clapped her hands twice and all the children put away the toys they had used earlier and put the crayons back into their boxes. By 12:30 everything was back in its place and parents started showing up to pick up their children.
"Mata raishuu, Mrs. B!" Little Taliko waved and left the classroom with her father.
"Sayonara Taliko!." She waved back with a smile. A few minutes later Leela locked up the classroom, slung her backpack over her shoulder and flew to Capsule Corp. House.
"Hello? Anyone home?" She yelled at the door.
"Kaasan!" The three kids ran to the door. Leela stooped down and gathered al three into her arms. Hugs and kisses went around as Bulma came to the door.
"Have you been good for Baasan?" They nodded and giggled. Leela ruffled their hair and stud up.
"How was your day?" Bulma gave her a quick hug and stepped aside.
"The children are learning quicker then I expected." She smiled but didn't go in. "Thanks so much for watching them Bulma-san."
"Your welcome Kit." She smiled and waved as they lifted into the air and flew out of sight. When Leela reached home, Bulma called.
"So who will watch them on Wednesdays and Fridays?" She asked
"Leeli said she'd watch them." Leela replied as she made dinner.
"Looks like you thought everything through." Bulma leaned foreword and smiled.
"I guess I did." She whipped her brow on the back of her hand and smiled back at Bulma.
"Where are they now?" Bulma tried to look around Leela but gave up.
"They're watching T.V." Leela said simply and cut up an onion.
"What are they watching?" Bulma blinked.
"Nani?" Leela blinked and looked up.
"I said what are they watching?" Bulma laughed.
"Oh...CareBears. Ki loves the one called 'Lovealot', you know the pink one with a rainbow heart on her belly." Leela laughed and added the onion to the stew.
"My favorite was 'Sleepytime' bear. He was just so cute and he just made you wanna hug him." They both laughed.
"Well I'll let you finish, talk to you later Kit. " Bulma laughed and closed the link.
"See ya Monday." Leela smiled and finished the stew.
"Kaasan is dinner almost done?" Kiyoshi walked in with a thumb in his mouth.
"Hai, Ki-san, dinner will be done in a few minutes. Kiyoshi smiled and ran back to the couch. They ate dinner then sat down togther to watch a movie.
"Ki, Kin you two go take a bath ok?" Leela got up after the movie and went into the kitchen. After she finished the dishes Kin and Kiyoshi came out and went into the bedroom.
"Our turn." Leela smiled and helped Destiny down from the stool.
"Yay!" Destiny ran in the bedroom. Leela smiled, shook her head and fallowed. Leela slipped into warm water just after Destiny. Destiny started playing with a rubber dolphin when she noticed a bath puff hanging from the water facet. She took the puff and smirked.
"Kaasan, catch!" Destiny throw the puff at her mother and ducked under the water.
"Oh you asked for it!" Leela smirked and throw the puff onto the floor then tackled Destiny. Destiny laughed and dunked Leela.
"Your turn!" Leela dunked Destiny and laughed.
"No it's yours!" Destiny dunked Leela. They continued dunking each other until Kin knocked on the door.
"Kaasan, Ane? You two ok?" He raised an eyebrow as he heard them get out.
"Hai, itoto! We're fine." Destiny's little voice through the door. A moment later mother and daughter came out in matching pajamas.
"Are you two ready for bed?" Leela smiled and put her hands on her hips.
"Hai, Kaasan." He smiled and ran back into the bedroom. Leela smiled and fallowed with Destiny close behind. She read them a bed time story.
"Oyasuminasai Ki, Kin." Leela turned off their light as she and Destiny went to the next bedroom.
"Oyasuminasai Kaasan." Ki yawned and fell asleep. Leela tucked Destiny in and looked out the window. The stars sparkled in a black velvet blanket above them. Leela sat down on the end of Destiny's bed and watched the stars twinkle. She sighed deeply when she heard her daughter's breathing deepen.
'Where do I go from here?' She thought as she watched a shooting star. She leaned over and turned on the radio.
"When the stars are falling, I'll be calling you....." Leela listened to the song and watched the stars. As she was about to turn off the radio a new song came on. "We're running with the shadows of the night! So baby take my hand it'll be alright. Surrender all your dreams to me tonight, they'll come true in the end!" She smiled as she listened to one of her old favorite songs. After it was done she turned off the radio. A moment later she was laying on her own bed with her hands behind her head. She turned her head an hour later when she heard Destiny turn sit up then turn on the CD player. She smiled as songs she had burned for her came on. "Deep in my soul, a love so strong it takes control, now we both know, the secrets bear, the feelings show. Driven far apart I make a wish on a shooting star. There will come a day, somewhere far away, in your arms I'll stay, my only love..."
Leela laughed inwardly at the irony of it. That was Destiny's favorite song and Leela had come to love it to. It seemed to speak a thousand things she felt and wished to say herself, yet could not. Tears filled her eyes as 'Rainy day man' came on. That to was a song of many words. She had always thought of Lotanks as her 'Rainy day man', the one always there to comfort and protect. She whipped away the tears bitterly.
'So sad how things weren't as they appeared to be.' She thought bitterly and turned onto her side and fell asleep.
Leela walked down the street the next day after finishing her weekend job as a backup programmer at Capsule Corp. She hefted her bag higher on her shoulder and looked around for a place to get something to drink. A small café caught her eye. It was in between a cloths store and a bakery. She looked around and noticed an ice-cream shop across the street.
'This is a perfect place to go shopping.' She thought and crossed the street to the ice-cream shop.
"Can I help you Ms.?" The ice-cream vender glanced over at her as she looked into the window at all the ice-cream flavors.
"I'd like chocolate chip cookie dough please." She smiled. The ice-cream vender walked over, stuck his hand with a scupper into the indicated ice-cream flavor.
"Cone or cup?" He smiled back.
"Cone please." He pulled a cone from the top of the stack of cones on top of the glass case. He was about to reach back in when she interrupted.
"Oh, just once scoop thanks." She laughed. The vender nodded, put a napkin around the cone and handed it to her. She handed him his money bowed and walked back across the street to the café. She bought a french vanilla cappuccino and sat down to look over some papers to find the problem with the new computer system. Leela ate the ice-cream cone quickly and started pouring over the papers when a shadow fell over her.
Leela pretended not to notice and took a sip of her cappuccino. When the shadow didn't move she looked up. The man standing in front of her was staring at her quizzically. She shifted uneasily and noticed a little boy next to him. She blinked then smiled.
"Konnichi wa, Jin." He smiled back.
"Jin you know this woman?" His father looked at him in surprise.
"I'm his teacher Mrs. B. How do you do?" She held out a hand.
"B?" He shook her hand with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh, sorry. I use the short form. Its easier for the children to remember." She laughed. "V.Briefs or if you want the really long form Vegeta-Briefs." She smiled and took a sip of her cappuccino. His light brown hair ruffled in the wind.
"Excuse me for saying this, but you look failure." He squinted his pale brown eyes and sat down. Jin sat down in the third chair.
"Well, I haven't been around here for a vary long time. I came back about six months ago." She explained and put the papers away. He titled is head to the side and frowned.
"Its just.....you remind me of someone I knew....er sorta knew." He laughed. Leela smiled, folded her hands and put her chin on them.
"And who might that be?" She recognized him now and thought it was funny.
"Her name was Leela." It was Leela's turn to laugh.
"Leela desu." She took another drink of the cappuccino.
"You're a V.Briefs?" He couldn't believe his ears. Leela's face reddened slightly
"Hai, Nanko, I am." She finished the cappuccino and stud up. "I'm sorry, but I need to get home." She slung the bag onto her shoulder.
"Well it was nice seeing you again, and I hope we meet again." They shook hands and both went their own ways. Leela turned and waved to Jin then turned a corner and headed to Cap. Corp. House. She smiled as she remembered how much they looked alike. The only difference was that Jin's eyes had blue flakes in them. Bulma was waiting at the door when she started up the path.
"You seem happy about something." She crossed her arms and smiled.
"Hai, Bulma-san. I just saw someone I hadn't seen in years. His son is in my class." She laughed. "I've got friends in both high and low places and sometimes in the middle." She stated and both started laughing.
"I'm planning to take the kids cloths shopping, would you like to come?" Leela walked in and put her bag on an empty chair.
"Me? Why I haven't gone shopping in ages." Bulma pulled at the blue t-shirt she was wearing, Leela smiled.
"Why do you think I asked? I've made enough money to last me a long time so I decided we should go on a shopping spree." She laughed and took out her purse from the bag.
"Sure, just let me go get my purse." Bulma smiled and went into the next room. Destiny, Kiyoshi and Kin came running in a moment later.
"Kaasan! Are we really going with you?" Destiny asked with wide hopeful eyes.
"Of course, all three of you are going to get new cloths." She smiled. "You're growing out of the ones you have now so you'll be needing new ones any ways." She tapped Destiny's nose then picked her up and turned when Bulma came back. Bulma smiled as Kiyoshi ran up to her and raised his arms.
"Up please!" He bounced up and down.
"He speaks." Bulma laughed as she picked him up.
"Lets go." Leela smiled and took Kin's hand.
"Lead the way Kit-san." Bulma grinned. Leela lead the way back to the café and went into the cloths store.
Destiny chose a pair or black shorts that had a rose bud on the right leg; a black thank top to go with them, two pairs of jeans with red middles white daisies on the hems, a white t-shirt, a blue t-shirt, a skirt with flames along the bottom, a white tank-top with the words "Stay Away I bite" in pink on it, a light blue spaghetti strap tank-top with little pink clouds across the chest, a pair or jeans with the same clouds down the sides of the legs and a few hair clips.
"Destiny why did you chose thinks with pink or red on them?" Leela looked at the cute cloths and held up the "Stay Away I bite" shirt.
"Just because." She smiled and waited for her to finish buying the cloths. Leela eyed Destiny's red vest and smiled.
"Are these your favorite colors?" She smirked.
"Hai." Destiny laughed, Leela rolled her eyes and shook her head. Leela looked around and noticed a bracelet with a 'D' Charm dangling from it. She put it with everything else. Kin and Kiyoshi got matching wallets with Ks on them. After everything was bought and paid for, Leela dropped Bulma off with her big bag of goodies then went home.
The boys unpacked their clothing when they got home. Five out-fits each child were hung up and put away. They laughed and played til bedtime.
"Since you three have behaved so well, I'm gonna have a little surprise for you tomorrow. Don't ask what it is yet cuz I wont tell you." She smiled as she tucked them in.
"Aw..Kaasan." She put a finger to Kin's mouth.
"Sleep, you can wait til tomorrow." She smiled. Leela read them a story and sang them to sleep. The next day they ate popcorn and watched "The Tenth Kingdom".
