Music background:: I began playing piano at the age of five, followed by stints with cello, clarinet, and alto clarinet in my teens. I was taught by my mother, who was a concert pianist and a talented artist. You can click here to see some computer drawings by her: Eunsook Yoo
When I was a child, I thought of music as a chore (performance, theory, history, etc.), so I quit playing music at 15, although I studied music theory and history in college.
I started my real interest in playing music in my mid-twenties, when I picked up guitar and started singing and writing tunes with a couple friends. We formed a garage band that played a total of three house parties. We were terrible. After that band disbanded, I worked on some tracks with my singer-girlfriend, which comprised of acoustic guitar and dual vocals.
STEVE LEE:THE SOLO PROJECT
I started working on solo tracks in my apartment, the initial stages of the Steve Lee solo project. My solo style is mostly acoustic/electric guitar mixed with piano and multiple voice parts. I use a Fender DeVille combo tube amp with my Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar. I use a 12-string acoustic guitar for recordings. I play a Fender Jazz Precision bass, with an Ampeg SVT-4 head and Hartke and Ampeg 4x10 cabinets. I also have a Casio WK-1300 keyboard for piano/synth and simple drum effects. I record it all on a Yamaha 4-track and transfer the tracks to Cool Edit Pro on my computer. My influences are artists such as Beck, Hayden Desser, Mark Everett of the Eels, Nick Drake, and Radiohead.

BRNR: HEAVY ROCK BAND OUTTA OAKLAND
I've also been in a heavy-rock band for the last 6 years, called BRNR (pronounced "burner"). We are a three-piece, comprised of Mat Dahms on guitar, Steven Miller on drums, and myself on bass and vocals. We've played numerous shows in the Bay Area, mostly East Bay clubs.
