Follow-up is an important and necessary part to the interview process, which starts to occur right after shaking the interviewer's hand at the end of the interview. There are another couple of steps to the process which need to occur within the next 48 hours.

Step 1: Write a thank you note / card thanking the interviewer(s) and reiterating your interest for the job. This is never sent by e-mail! You want the personal touch; therefore, hand-deliver it within the next 24 hours!

Step 2: If you have not received any type of communication by the stated communication time, take the initiative and contact the interviewer(s) to find out about the status of the position.
